We just got a backstory for the LEGO Star Wars mechs

LEGO Star Wars mechs might have seemed like a surprising new direction but their origins have just been explained.

While 75368 Darth Vader’s Mech, 75369 Boba Fett Mech, and 75370 Stormtrooper Mech might seem like something that would belong better in LEGO Marvel than LEGO Star Wars, an animated short for Halloween has revealed a potential reason for them to come about (in the world of LEGO Star Wars, that is).

The animated two-minute short reveals a Stormtrooper working on Mustafar and becoming tired of being punished by Darth Vader decides to get his own back. He created a mech (the same as in 75370 Stormtrooper Mech) and showed off to the other Stormtroopers. Vader, disliking the attention he’s getting, builds his own mech to battle him (75368 Darth Vader’s Mech).

Finally (and with the least cohesive backstory), Boba Fett enters with his own mech (75369 Boba Fett Mech) to break up the fight, leaving the pair of Imperial mechs in a pile of rubble on the floor. So, although mechs like those in the LEGO sets never appeared in the Star Wars franchise, we do now have a reason for them appearing within the brick-built universe.

At the same time, we’ve also got a look at how Darth Vader and the Emperor celebrate Halloween on Mustafar – as well as a surprise prank appearance from Artoo. Check out the embedded links above and below to watch both animated shorts in full.
