Prime Video will be playing host to Batman: Caped Crusader, when the all-new animated series launches on the streaming service later this year.
Dedicated fans of the Dark Knight received a surprise release in April, when 76271 Batman: The Animated Series Gotham City arrived online and in stores. The LEGO Art set was inspired by the 1990s series of the same name, with a brick-built skyline packed with references to the show.
Another LEGO set based on Batman: The Animated Series is due for release next month, with
Now comes word that a new 10-episode Batman animated series is on its way later this year, with Batman: Caped Crusader due to drop on Prime Video on August 1, 2024. The show has been executive-produced by J.J. Abrams, The Batman director Matt Reeves and original Batman: The Animated Series co-creator Bruce Timm.
The spiritual successor to Batman: The Animated Series was first announced as an HBO Max series in 2021, before Amazon ultimately decided to pick up the series. In an unusual creative choice, Batman: Caped Crusader will be set in the 1940s, with the look of the Dark Knight closely mirroring the character's first appearance in Detective Comics # 27.
Batman: Caped Crusader will also feature the likes of Catwoman and Clayface, along with an updated version of Harley Quinn. The series will portray the villain as an Asian-American character and attempt to distance her from being the Joker’s long-time partner in crime.
If the new animated show proves to be a hit, it could well be potential source material for even more LEGO Batman sets, although that’s pure speculation on our part. We’ll be able to find out just how Batman: Caped Crusader fares when the series lands on Prime Video on August 1.
