Five of the best builds in LEGO 71837 NINJAGO City Workshops

The latest LEGO NINJAGO City set blends in with the collection from afar but stands out up close with innovative building techniques to take note of.

A new entry into the long-running LEGO NINJAGO City range hits shelves in March in the form of 71837 NINJAGO City Workshops. Despite being the second-smallest LEGO NINJAGO City model so far, 71837 NINJAGO City Workshops is full of incredible building techniques to admire ahead of its release.

Whether you need some quick inspiration or are interested in seeing how they compare to those of the other four NINJAGO City sets, here are five of the best builds in LEGO 71837 NINJAGO City Workshops.

A book-built window

A build on the back of Zane's apartment takes small LEGO windows to another level, using book covers as window coverings and as a perfect method of framing the actual window element, all while leaving room for a small flowerbox using a new element to boot.

A minifigure-scale bonsai

Zane's apartment is also home to another great LEGO build with a minifigure-scale bonsai tree impressive using just five elements including a small domed piece, foliage, the newer flower part and an upturned minifigure skirt for the pot. It's the kind of model that is likely to surface in other sets and fan-created designs in the future.

All kinds of tiled roofs

The LEGO NINJAGO City has become known for its innovative use of elements to create tiled roofs that blend in perfectly with one another while demonstrating entirely different ways of approaching the iconic architecture. This tradition remains present in 71837 NINJAGO City Workshops with pieces in use including small catapult buckets, minifigure chairs and half-arches on their side.

Scarf noodles

Interesting signage is another common occurrence in NINJAGO City and while 71837 NINJAGO City Workshops doesn't quite use half a minifigure for a noodle restaurant, it does use an upturned scarf as noodles, taking this piece from fashion to food.

An ingenious garage door

LEGO Technic fans will be interested to see that the larger gear rack quarter pieces make a surprise appearance in 71837 NINJAGO City Workshops as curved tracks for a garage door to roll up and down on. As well as being functionally genius, this helps the profile of this ground-floor building to stand out from the rest of the city's buildings.

71837 NINJAGO City Workshops will launch on March 1, 2025, for £219.99 / $249.99 / €249.99, with 3,244 pieces. Click here to learn more about the multiple sources of inspiration behind NINJAGO City.
