Closer look at LEGO Star Wars Obi-Wan’s Jedi Interceptor free gift

This month’s issue of the LEGO Star Wars magazine comes packed with two free gifts, including a mini model of Obi Wan’s Jedi Interceptor.

We haven’t seen Obi-Wan’s red-tinged ship in LEGO since 2016’s 75135 Obi-Wan’s Jedi Interceptor (though a yellow version is currently available in 75281 Anakin’s Jedi Interceptor). That makes this 33-piece mini model pretty enticing right off the bat – and it doesn’t disappoint in its design, either.

The shaping is spot on, and the detail is impressive, right down to the 1×1 round plate to represent the doomed Astro droid R4-P17. The only criticism we can level at it is that it’s perhaps a little too grey, but printed S-foils are a big ask from a freebie like this, and the 2×2 trapezoid flag elements are unfortunately pretty rare in dark red.

Our copy of Issue 66 also came bundled with an A-wing Starfighter, which isn’t quite as successful at this scale. The use of 4×3 plates from the Collectible Minifigures range for the stabiliser wings is inspired, but way too blocky for purpose.

Given the second model is billed as an ‘extra toy’, though, your copy might come with something completely different.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
