Comparing the LEGO Formula 1 Ferrari helmets to the originals

Here’s a closer look at how the LEGO Editions Formula 1 Ferrari helmets compare to the original gear worn by the drivers.

Both 43014 Scuderia Ferrari HP Charles Leclerc Helmet and 43022 Scuderia Ferrari HP Lewis Hamilton Helmet are based on the 2025 helmet liveries for Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton. While both Formula 1 drivers sported special liveries for various races last year, the LEGO versions are inspired by the main designs that were revealed at the beginning of the 2025 season.

We’ve put the real helmets side by side with images of the LEGO Editions versions to compare how closely the brick-built replicas stick to the originals. From afar, the silhouettes of the helmets have been rendered well at this scale, especially considering how tricky depicting curved objects using LEGO bricks can be. The only major difference is the aerodynamics at the rear of the helmets, where there’s far less of a spoiler-style ridge on the LEGO versions than the originals.

That’s of course helped with the debut of a whole new element for the visor, something that would have been virtually impossible to build accurately out of bricks. The reflective sheen sticks close to the colour of Leclerc’s own visor, as pictured below.

There’s some interruption to the curved shape of the helmet, especially around the top but that’s only to be expected. Almost all of the sponsorship placements carry through to the LEGO version, with the exception of a few, such as VGW Play. That could be because that’s a casino company and therefore wouldn’t be in line with the LEGO Group’s family-friendly policies, echoing how 77247 KICK Sauber F1 Team C44 didn’t include Stake branding.

The sponsorships are sometimes at slightly different spots, with the UniCredit and Bitdefender logos positioned further down on the LEGO helmet than the real one.

Leclerc’s bold logo for his number and logo are rendered faithfully on the sides and the back of the helmet. There’s some awkward placement of the red and white bands that wrap around the sides of the helmet, with one large printed plate used for the ’16’ on the side set at an odd angle that leaves the lines looking lopsided.

What’s more, instead of a smooth zigzag that you can see on the side of Leclerc’s actual helmet, the gaps between the parts at the base of the helmet also interrupt some of the finer lines, making for a more patchy look than the actual design.

That said, those compromises are only to be expected when converting any object into a brick-built one, and there are plenty of details that are rendered faithfully. That includes a curved piece that mirrors the M6 terminal on the side of the helmet.

Moving on to 43022 Scuderia Ferrari HP Lewis Hamilton Helmet, the same differences in the shape of the helmet are present here too. However, Hamilton’s helmet design – sticking more to block colours with red lines – is far more forgiving in a LEGO set than Leclerc’s.

The sharp red lines along the top of the helmet have been faithfully rendered, along with the iconic prancing horse from Ferrari and other branded sponsors – with the exception of VGW Play once again.

There’s also the familiar seven stars on the sides of Hamilton’s helmet, signifying his seven World Championship titles. The three lines of stars separate neatly, leaning into the natural shape of the LEGO helmet in a way that complements the design well.

From the back, you can see the brick-built construction of the helmet the most easily, breaking the illusion of the model. Here is where you’ll also find the most interruptions of the red lines running around the helmet, thanks to the use of smaller parts, compared to the larger ones on the sides and front.

All in all, the helmets have been recreated pretty faithfully, despite some compromises to the silhouette at the back and some sponsorships lacking. Those details are easy to look past thanks to impressive attention to detail elsewhere – as well as that all-new visor.

LEGO Editions 43014 Scuderia Ferrari HP Charles Leclerc Helmet and 43022 Scuderia Ferrari HP Lewis Hamilton Helmet are both available to pre-order now for £79.99 / $89.99 / €89.99 ahead of their launch on May 1, 2026.

I write about all the very best fandoms – and that means LEGO, of course. Spending so much time looking at and talking about LEGO sets is dangerous for my bank balance, but the LEGO shelves are thriving. You win some, you lose some.
