Comparing the microscale LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Castles

There are two microscale LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle models, offering an interesting comparison despite the different price points.

From September 1, both 71043 Hogwarts Castle and the newer 76419 Hogwarts Castle and Grounds will be on shelves together, but at entirely different price points.

71043 Hogwarts Castle costs £409.99 / $469.99 / €469.99 while 76419 Hogwarts Castle and Grounds is £149.99 / $169.99 / €169.99 with 6,020 and 2,660 pieces respectively. While we wait for September, here are a few interesting points of comparison between the two microscale Hogwarts Castles.

Characters

While 71043 Hogwarts Castle has four exclusive minifigures of the Hogwarts founders and 27 microfigures to display around the castle, the size of 76419 Hogwarts Castle and Grounds doesn’t accommodate any microfigures. However, it does include an exclusive minifigure of the architect’s statue with a new beard brick.

Area

Despite being bigger, 71043 Hogwarts Castle only covers a small section of the Hogwarts campus. 76419 Hogwarts Castle and Grounds still doesn’t cover everything but extends further beyond the bridge than the bigger build.

Interior

71043 Hogwarts Castle has a much bigger interior with more locations than 76419 Hogwarts Castle and Grounds, but the two share some areas including the Chamber of Secrets, the Winged Key room, the Potions Classroom and the Chessboard Chamber.

Extras

The extras in 71043 Hogwarts Castle include the Hungarian Horntail, Hagrid’s Hut, boats and the Whomping Willow with Ford Anglia. Comparatively, 76419 Hogwarts Castle and Grounds includes only the latter but adds the Durmstrang Ship and Beauxbatons Carriage.

Prints and stickers

71043 Hogwarts Castle mostly relied on stickers for its design but in 76419 Hogwarts Castle and Grounds, it appears that the majority of bricks are printed with designs stretching close to the edges of the pieces too.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
