Custom LEGO Star Wars Jedi Starfighters are the latest craze

The latest LEGO Star Wars community trend is expanding 75400 Plo Koon’s Jedi Starfighter Microfighter with other sets, no matter what.

In anticipation of the new 75400 Plo Koon’s Jedi Starfighter Microfighter, the LEGO Star Wars community quickly devised custom depictions of the blue and white starfighter, expanding on the Microfighter. Now that the LEGO Star Wars set is available, those custom creations have adapted accordingly.

We took a close look at a custom build last month, combining the contents of 31160 Aircraft: Race Plane for £12.99 / $14.99 / €14.99 and 75388 Jedi Bob’s Starfighter for £34.99 / $39.99 / €39.99 for an impressive depiction of Plo Koon’s Jedi Starfighter. This was before 75400 Plo Koon’s Jedi Starfighter Microfighter was available, and the custom creations have evolved and adapted with the release of the new set.

Since the release of 75400 Plo Koon’s Jedi Starfighter Microfighter, there are many more options to choose from that now involve the official model.

Most variations of the custom Plo Koon Jedi Starfighters include one of either 31160 Aircraft: Race Plane or 75388 Jedi Bob’s Starfighter, but using the pieces from 75400 Plo Koon’s Jedi Starfighter Microfighter to deviate from Will_Crafting‘s creation.

Wurger Bricks has a custom build for either additional set, though the benefit of using 31160 Aircraft: Race Plane instead is that you’ll have a display stand for the starfighter. Codyaner.bricks has a version 31160 Aircraft: Race Plane as well, opting for a similar, but substantially different build with some alternate part usage towards the back of the build.

The custom creations that use 31160 Aircraft: Race Plane need an additional cockpit windscreen element, but they’re both fairly common and should be easy to find somewhere in your collection.

Those not aiming to pick up either 31160 Aircraft: Race Plane or 75388 Jedi Bob’s Starfighter for their minifigures and the alternate builds have another option, using two copies of 75400 Plo Koon’s Jedi Starfighter Microfighter.

MasterBrickSeparator’s build needs two copies of the Microfighter, using the included parts widely to capture the shaping and colour scheme of the Jedi Starfighter on a much smaller scale, yet still featuring a display stand. Note that an additional cockpit windshield piece is required, but it’s another common piece.

It’s not surprising to see that the LEGO Star Wars community have been so eager to expand on 75400 Plo Koon’s Jedi Starfighter Microfighter since the last depiction of Plo Koon’s ship was released in 2010. Watching how creative each new alternate build of 75400 Plo Koon’s Jedi Starfighter Microfighter gets has been an interesting and surprising experience, though.

LEGO Star Wars 75400 Plo Koon’s Jedi Starfighter Microfighter is available now with an exclusive minifigure for £12.99 / $14.99 / €14.99, whether you want to stick to the official model or pursue one of the many alternative options.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
