DC Entertainment might be getting a Marvel-style overhaul

Reports of an overhaul for DC Entertainment similar to the current handling of the Marvel Cinematic Universe might suggest changes for the heroes.

Variety believes that the current owners of WarnerMedia, which itself features DC as a creative unit, are looking to explore an overhaul for the entertainment side of the comic book publishers.

As of April 8, 2022, Warnermedia is now owned by Discovery after a merger was completed and confirmed, now under the name Warner Bros. Discovery. According to the report, which is currently unconfirmed officially, David Zaslav – CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery – was looking to appoint someone in a role similar to what Kevin Fiege is to Marvel before the merger.

Kevin Fiege is the President of Marvel Studios and oversees the story and creative aspects of all projects in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The success of this strategy is evident in the popularity, and quantity of the MCU movies.

Provided these reports are accurate and DC can appoint someone for a similar role, the potential goal of revitalising characters such as Superman and other ‘top-shelf characters’ could lead to a new iteration of the DCEU, or at least a revamp of it in its current state.

At the time of writing, these reports are unconfirmed and DC is set to release a slate of films, a few of which are based in the DCEU, but recent delays mean we won’t be watching them for a bit longer. Recently, it was also reported that Ezra Miller’s future as The Flash may be on hold.

For the world of LEGO, a revitalisation of the DCEU might mean sets that are more connected with recurring characters similar to the many MCU models. However, that’s only speculation based on unconfirmed rumours.
