Lucasfilm’s Lando Calrissian series is reportedly back on the table, with Donald Glover and his brother Stephen Glover said to be on writing duties for the Solo: A Star Wars Story spin-off show.
Haunted Mansion director Justin Simien was originally attached to the long-gestating Disney+ series, but Above the Line reports that he stepped away from Lando last summer (despite Simien himself suggesting earlier this week that he was still on board). In his place – as corroborated by Variety – comes writing duo Donald and Stephen Glover, who have previously collaborated on Donald’s FX series Atlanta and Prime Video's Swarm.
Donald Glover first portrayed Lando in 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story, and now seems almost certain to return to the role for the Disney+ series. He told GQ in April that he would ‘love to play Lando again’, but that ‘time is precious’. “People realize their time is valuable,” he said. “You only get so much. I’m not interested in doing anything that’s going to be a waste of my time or just a pay cheque.

“I’d much rather spend time with people that I enjoy. It just has to be the right thing, and I think it could be. Lando is definitely somebody I like to hang out with.” Above the Line claims that the Glovers have been on board for months – having signed on long before the actors’ and writers’ strike currently engulfing Hollywood began – and their vision of the series apparently has ‘Lucasfilm brass excited’.
Following a tentative start with The Mandalorian, the LEGO Group has fully embraced the Star Wars Disney+ shows over the past couple of years, culminating in a trio of sets for next month’s Ahsoka series. If Lando does eventually arrive on the small screen, it’s safe to expect LEGO Star Wars sets will follow. The sole minifigure based on Glover’s Calrissian – introduced as part of the original Solo wave – is now commanding upwards of £20 on the aftermarket.
Star Wars: Ahsoka premieres August 23 on Disney+, while
