Don’t expect a Marvel Studios Namor film soon

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever producer Nate Moore has explained why you shouldn’t expect to see Namor in any solo movies anytime soon.

In a recent interview, Nate Moore of the Black Panther sequel has opened up regarding the theatrical and other rights to the use of Namor, which reportedly belong to Universal Pictures. Namor features as the central antagonist in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever but it’s being stated that such a project is the only thing he can appear in.

“It honestly affects us more, and not to talk too much out of school, but in how we market the film than it does how we use him in the film,” Moore said to The Wrap. “There weren’t really things we couldn’t do from a character perspective for him, which is good because clearly, we took a ton of inspiration from the source material, but we also made some big changes to really anchor him in that world in a truth that publishing never really landed on, I would argue, in a big way.”

The aforementioned Hulk deal between Universal Pictures and Marvel Studios has been previously reported to only include ‘multi-character films’, such as Infinity War and Endgame as well as series as evidenced by She-Hulk. However, there has been no solo Hulk movie since the 2008 film, which was distributed by Universal Pictures.

Moore also confirmed in the interview that, “He can return”, though it seems likely that it’s only in multi-character projects rather than a solo adventure. The finer details of the agreement between Marvel Studios and Universal Pictures and who owns which character at this point time is unclear, so take these reports with caution in case.

While Namor’s status in future MCU projects is unknown about from the fact that he can return, you can pick up his minifigure in both 76213 King Namor’s Throne Room and 76214 Black Panther: War on the Water.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
