Don’t forget your scanner before LEGO 71049 F1 Collectible Race Cars

We’re days away from the next series of LEGO collectibles, and they’re starting to show up early, so it’s time to get the scanner to help your hunt.

71049 F1 Collectible Race Cars launches on May 1 but with evidence that some stores are stocking them early, and the recent revelation that the necessary codes have been added to the Brick Search app, it’s a great time to remind you of the useful minifigure scanner that just so happens to work with the new collectible cars too.

The Brick Search app is available now on Android and iOS devices. As well as being a LEGO collection-tracking app, it also has a helpful minifigure scanner that utilises the data matrix codes (essentially a smaller QR code) that are located on the bottom of the LEGO Collectible Minifigures boxes. While 71049 F1 Collectible Race Cars has no such minifigures, it still has the codes, and you can find out which team’s car is in each box by scanning them with Brick Search.

The video below is taken from our previous Brick Search guide for 71048 Series 27, but the method remains the same.

To make the most use of Brick Search‘s minifigure scanner, you’ll need a subscription to Brick Search Plus, costing £1.99 / $2.99 per month or £19.99 / $29.99 per year. Subscribing will grant you unlimited access to the scanner.

For those who still have Brick Search and Brick Search Plus on hand after the various minifigure series that have been using the codes, rest assured that everything is ready ahead of the debut of 71049 F1 Collectible Race Cars. For those new to the scene of LEGO collectibles, Brick Search is a helpful tool that can greatly aid in your hunt for the new series of cars.

Download the app on Android and iOS devices to get some practice in before 71049 F1 Collectible Race Cars launches on May 1, 2025. In the meantime, you can read our in-depth review of the cars for a closer look at each of the 12 models.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
