Eight of the best LEGO Castle builds in BDP Series 8

LEGO BrickLink Designer Program Series 8 has opened up the public votes on nearly 400 designs, including some excellent Castle options to choose from.

The BrickLink Designer Program opens the door for fan designers to throw their brick-built designs into the ring to become crowdfunded LEGO sets. If they make it through the fan vote (which Series 8 is undergoing now), the finalists will have up to 30,000 crowdfunded copies of their set made, to go out to builders around the world.

For that to happen, however, the public needs to vote – and there’s a whopping 384 sets to choose from. LEGO Castle always proves to be a popular collection within the designs, so we’ve picked out a few of the best that caught our eye, in no particular order. Coastal Keep

Designer: NiallBriggs Pieces: 2,847 BrickLink: Vote now

LEGO BrickLink Series 8 Coastal Keep 1024x768

We love the white brick look of NiallBriggs’s Coastal Keep, in keeping with the clean beachside design. It’s a twist on the classic LEGO Castles we’ve come to know and love and offers a new aesthetic for fans of brick-built castles to enjoy.

Festival Stage

Designer: FafnirDesign Pieces: 2,888 BrickLink: Vote now

LEGO BrickLink Series 8 Festival Stage 1024x768

FafnirDesign’s Festival Stage is a solid expansion for those who might already have a wealth of brick-built castles and are looking for a way to expand their world. The tower and building will blend easily with an existing Castle display, while the stage and the markets add a flavour of life aside from the factions and battles.

The Eastern Alliance

Designer: BrickyBricks82 Pieces: 4,000 BrickLink: Vote now

LEGO BrickLink Series 8 The Eastern Alliance 1024x768

BrickyBricks82’s The Eastern Alliance leans into both height and depth, with a classic grey brick look that’s. broken up with foliage and a neat wood-style extension on the upper floor. While it remains a fairly typical LEGO Castle build, it stands out thanks to the excellent attention to detail that transforms the build into a dynamic display.

Classic Castle

Designer: Waterleaper Pieces: 3,989 BrickLink: Vote now

LEGO BrickLink Series 8 Classic Castle 1024x768

If it’s colour you’re after, Waterleaper’s Classic Castle is the way to go. Virtually every tower is a different shade of red, orange, or cream, with banners and foliage aplenty to keep you engaged. With nearly 4,000 pieces, each level adds new design features in an explosion of ideas that comes together into one unified fortress.

The Red Rose Castle

Designer: PierreBauguion Pieces: 3,974 BrickLink: Vote now

LEGO BrickLink Series 8 The Red Rose Castle 1024x768

PierreBauguion’s The Red Rose Castle is quite the opposite, leaning into the dark and the gothic. The twisting tower is menacing to behold, but there are plenty of details to enjoy as soon as you zoom in, from a wide range of windows to a telescope at the top for spotting oncoming enemies.

Gilded Island Keep

Designer: HallowedBrick Pieces: 3,998 BrickLink: Vote now

LEGO BrickLink Series 8 Gilded Island Keep 1024x1024

HallowedBrick’s Gilded Island Keep breaks up the typical structure for a LEGO Castle, built across two towers that span over a minimalistic blue watery base. The warm tones of the build evoke a Mediterranean style that offers a breath of fresh air on this well-trodden LEGO theme.

Gothic Lair

Designer: BrikDude8 Pieces: 4,000 BrickLink: Vote now

LEGO BrickLink Series 8 Gothic Lair 1024x768

Another darker build, BrikDude8’s Gothic Lair almost looks like a cathedral, with its curved roof and vaulted spires. We especially love the arched structure, once again bringing something new to the table.

The Song of the Dragon Dynasty

Designer: AdmiraltyBrick Pieces: 4,000 BrickLink: Vote now

LEGO BrickLink Series 8 The Song of the Dragon Dynasty 1024x724

Last but not least, AdmiraltyBrick’s The Song of the Dragon Dynasty uses colours to make it appear even taller than it is, with layers of dark grey, light grey, and white adding extra depth to an already detailed build. The waterfall is an especially nice touch to round off the final look.

I write about all the very best fandoms – and that means LEGO, of course. Spending so much time looking at and talking about LEGO sets is dangerous for my bank balance, but the LEGO shelves are thriving. You win some, you lose some.
