Every LEGO Super Mario 18+ set designed so far

The annual LEGO Super Mario 18+ sets only get more varied in their topic coverage every year, starting with a console and now including a kart.

It’s the final day to pre-order 72037 Mario & Standard Kart during a Super Mario-specific double points event as we all await the May 15 release of the latest 18+ LEGO Super Mario set. Given Nintendo’s extensive history, it’s not surprising to see the LEGO Group continually lean into nostalgic models. There’s a twist this time, though, as 72037 Mario & Standard Kart is considerably more modern than most sets in the collection.

Starting in 2020 and continuing to this day, here’s every 18+ LEGO Super Mario set released so far, and there’s only one other non-Mario 18+ model in the ongoing partnership with Nintendo.

71374 Nintendo Entertainment System

Price: £229.99 / $269.99 / €269.99 Pieces: 2,646 Release date: August 1, 2020

Kicking off the collection one month after LEGO Super Mario launched is 71374 Nintendo Entertainment System. It’s one of the few LEGO console and arcade machine recreations aimed at adults but remains one of the most functional thanks to its working recreation of the first Super Mario level, as well as the included controller, cartridge and even functionality with the electronic figures.

71395 Super Mario 64 Question Mark Block

Price: £169.99 / $199.99 / €199.99 Pieces: 2,064 Release date: October 1, 2021

LEGO Super Mario 71395 Super Mario 64 Block featured 1 1024x576

2021 saw the arrival of 71395 Super Mario 64 Question Mark Block, paying tribute to the titular game and a block that never actually appeared in Super Mario 64. Despite the oddity, it’s a faithful recreation of the iconic block with a clever function that sees several levels from Super Mario 64 fold out of the top, complete with secrets to discover and tiny Super Mario figures to populate the models. As expected, it also includes functionality with the electronic figures.

71411 The Mighty Bowser

Price: £229.99 / $269.99 / €269.99 Pieces: 2,807 Release date: October 1, 2022

2022 had us going from the smallest Bowser in LEGO Super Mario to the biggest. 71411 The Mighty Bowser has been on shelves for nearly three years with puppet-like features that make the giant figure more playable than most sets on this list. The electronic figures work best in this build, too, since it acts as the ultimate boss battle against Bowser. You can still pick this set up for £229.99 / $269.99 / €269.99.

71426 Piranha Plant

Price: £57.99 / $59.99 / €64.99 Pieces: 540 Release date: November 6, 2023

The 18+ LEGO Super Mario set for 2023 is also the smallest by far. 71426 Piranha Plant sits alongside the likes of 76433 Mandrake as odd companions to the LEGO Botanicals range. It’s a recreation of the Super Mario enemy coming out of a signature green pipe with some secrets to discover, but no functionality with the electronic figures for the first time in the collection’s history.

71438 Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi

Price: £114.99 / $129.99 / €129.99 Pieces: 1,215 Release date: October 1, 2024

Last year saw 71438 Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi bring the functionality with the electronic figures back, though. The 1,215-piece set is based on Super Mario World, depicting the sprite of Mario riding Yoshi with moving parts accurate to their in-game animation.

72037 Mario & Standard Kart

Price: £149.99 / $169.99 / €169.99 Pieces: 1,972 Release date: May 15, 2025

In just a couple of months, 72037 Mario & Standard Kart will race to shelves with a proper depiction of Mario’s modern design (not the first thanks to the electronic figures, though). This 1,972-piece creation takes inspiration from 2014’s Mario Kart 8 as a display-focused model on a stand. Any functionality with the electronic figures has not been advertised, and we will have to see whether there are any secrets to discover in the figure and kart.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
