Six reasons to be excited about LEGO 71049 F1 Collectible Race Cars
A new series of LEGO collectibles is around the corner, and there are a few reasons to be excited about 71049 F1 Collectible Race Cars.
There’s no doubt that 71049 F1 Collectible Race Cars is going to be a harder sell to some LEGO fans compared to the many other minifigure-centric collectible series from the past few years. 71049 F1 Collectible Race Cars launches on May 1, 2025, for £3.49 / $4.99 / €3.99.
Despite the distinct departure, LEGO enthusiasts shouldn’t overlook the series entirely and here are a few reasons why. You can read our review as well while you wait for their launch in a few days.
They’re affordable alternatives to the Speed Champions range

For £3.49 / $4.99 / €3.99 each, the 12 71049 F1 Collectible Race Cars are much more affordable than the 10 LEGO Speed Champions Formula 1 2025 sets at £22.99 / $26.99 / €26.99 each. They’re accordingly a lot smaller, of course, but for F1 fans on a budget, 71049 F1 Collectible Race Cars are perfectly poised to fill in a smaller space in your collection.
It’s easy to collect them all

Speaking of their affordable nature, 71049 F1 Collectible Race Cars’ low price makes them a lot easier to collect than their Speed Champions counterparts. There are two more of them, though, covering the 10 teams and two for the motorsport itself. Finding specific cars is easy with Brick Search Plus, available to download now on Android and iOS devices.
They have many new pieces

There are a few new pieces in the LEGO 71049 F1 Collectible Race Cars series that will be worthwhile for LEGO fans to collect at least a few of, given the low cost. These include a front wing, a chassis and a minifigure helmet, which is featured in other recent LEGO Formula 1 sets, as well.
They’re a dose of LEGO Racers nostalgia

LEGO Racers fans will be drawn towards 71049 F1 Collectible Race Cars thanks to nostalgia. They bear a striking resemblance to the smallest sets in the theme, with standard minifigure heads on a smaller body in a suitably small car. That’s the same concept which has inspired 71049 F1 Collectible Race Cars, but with no minuscule body.
They’re great for getting multiple of the new minifigure helmet

Of the new pieces in 71049 F1 Collectible Race Cars, the sleek minifigure racing helmets are abundant in the latest LEGO Collectible series. It’s easy to amass as many of them as you need for your collection at a low cost with 71049 F1 Collectible Race Cars.
They re-open the door to more collectable builds

The days of the LEGO Super Mario character packs and Mixels are long behind us, with collectible and blind-boxed minifigures now taking centre stage instead. Given the popularity of the LEGO Collectible Minifigures, it’s not surprising to see collectible builds take a backseat for the past few years.
71049 F1 Collectible Race Cars goes to show that such models can exist alongside the LEGO minifigures, though, by replacing one of the standard minifigure series. It’s a welcome sign for LEGO fans missing the days of Mixels and more.

these are terrible, I can’t believe they switched this out from minifigures… this is a poor decision.. so what are we supposed to do who collect mini figures.
I found them early used omg to scan them and one scanned F1 but was the McLaren inside.
what was the code for McLaren?
