There are some familiar faces in the new Doctor Strange footage

The latest Doctor Strange footage hints at some beloved Marvel characters, presenting some exciting opportunities for the LEGO Marvel theme.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is a new entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Following his debut outing (as well as appearances in the Thor, Avengers and Spider-Man films) Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sorcerer Supreme is the main character again. From what we’ve gathered the film will see Strange exploring the multiverse, and now some other favourites seem to be joining him. Spoilers ahead…

According to Gizmodo, a piece of (now-deleted) footage features appearances from Captain Carter and Professor X. Captain Carter is a super-soldier incarnation of Peggy Carter, sweetheart of Captain America. She recently appeared in the Disney+ animation What If…?, which explored alternate realities. The appearance of her shield in the film footage suggests Captain Carter is branching out into live action.

Professor X is famously the leader of the X-Men, a gang of super-powered mutants. While a number of X-Men films have been produced, they have been largely unconnected to the films produced by Marvel Studios. Following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox that seems to be changing, with Sir Patrick Stewart apparently returning to the role of Charles Xavier.

Interestingly, his appearance here seems inspired by his animated version. A hi-tech yellow wheelchair (which covers his legs) pops up in the footage, which was used in the 90’s X-Men cartoon. It also made an appearance in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes back in the day.

While Captain Carter has received two LEGO versions (one in her classic uniform, one in her modern-day stealth suit) Professor X has never received an official LEGO minifigure. As such, any future appearances of the professor in LEGO form would be very welcome indeed – especially as other X-Men have enjoyed LEGO appearances already.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will release on May 6. Its lone LEGO tie-in – 76205 Gargantos Showdown – is currently available for purchase. No other Doctor Strange LEGO sets (or X-Men LEGO sets) have been confirmed for release at the moment, although you can buy 76202 Wolverine Mech Armor at the moment if you like.
