‘More Fantastic Four sets when?’: LEGO F4 poster hints at what could have been

The LEGO Group has published a LEGO-fied poster for Fantastic Four: First Steps, offering a glimpse at what could have been.

As it often does for new movie releases, the LEGO Group has released a LEGO-fied version of the movie poster for Fantastic Four: First Steps. It showcases the four main characters, in the same minifigure format as they appear in 76316 Fantastic Four vs. Galactus Construction Figure – as well as some never before seen LEGO Fantastic Four constructions.

That includes the Baxter Building in the background, and the Fantasticar in the foreground. Traditional robot companion to the Four, H.E.R.B.I.E., also appears in the front left.

Seeing brick-built versions of these Fantastic Four characters and scenery is a tempting glimpse of what could have been. As it stands, the only official F4 set is 76316 Fantastic Four vs. Galactus Construction Figure, which only includes the four minifigures and a brick-built version of the villain himself.

People in the comments are calling for more, however, with one commenting: “That Fantasticar would look real nice next to the Galactus set I bought.” Another added: “We need a buildable Herbie, we need a Fantasticar, we need a Silver Surfer minifigure, we need a modular Baxter Building complete with Excelsior launch complex, and we need an 18+ Galactus that is to scale with the modular buildings!”

That’s quite a long shopping list, and there’s no more Fantastic Four sets on the way just yet. With the long lead times for LEGO sets, especially licensed ones, any more sets would still be a couple of years away – but if the film proves popular, then never say never.

For now, you can build a pretty decent LEGO Fantasticar of your own by modifying 40789 Flying Moon Car, which is still available in the LEGO Insiders Rewards Centre for 2,500 points.

I write about all the very best fandoms – and that means LEGO, of course. Spending so much time looking at and talking about LEGO sets is dangerous for my bank balance, but the LEGO shelves are thriving. You win some, you lose some.
