First look at LEGO Monkie Kid 2023 model and minifigures

LEGO Monkie Kid’s first 2023 model has been officially revealed, offering a first look at the theme’s future adventures and minifigures.

Much like 2021 and 2022, a LEGO Monkie Kid set has been revealed alongside the 2023 Lunar New Year models, likely coming next year. 80045 Monkey King Ultra Mech includes six minifigures, a mech and a jet, the latter of which may be an included accessory to upgrade the build.

With the 5th China International Import Expo – where these sets were revealed earlier today – in full swing, a closer look at the minifigures has been revealed, indicating the direction for the theme in 2023.

Closer images for five of the six minifigures have been shared by Dylan Chow and Wooden Duck. Names for them have yet to be revealed, but a trio of menacing minifigures resemble figures from the Journey to the West story – the Three Demon Kings at Lion Camel Ridge

In the story of the Journey to the West novels, these demons include the Azure Lion, Yellow-Toothed Elephant and the Golden Winged Great Peng. With LEGO Monkie Kid being inspired by the story of the Journey to the West in its narrative so far, it could be that the next chapter of the theme will use these figures as the new villains for 2023.

While 80045 Monkey King Ultra Mech has yet to receive any further details other than a release on December 25, 2022, it’s an upgraded version of 80012 Monkey King Warrior Mech, which has now sold out on LEGO.com in some regions, but not in the US.

One of the five sets revealed at the 5th China International Import Expo has been added to LEGO.com at the time of writing, so the other four may follow suit soon.

Rumours for another LEGO Monkie Kid set with the number 80041 surfaced earlier this year, though it has yet to be confirmed officially.
