Four things we’d love to see in a new LEGO roller coaster

Rumours for another LEGO roller coaster in 2022 have surfaced, and there are plenty of new and returning features we’d love to see in a set.

The huge 10261 Roller Coaster has now retired, but it is reported that another recreation of the fairground attraction could be on the way later this year, with a section of track not included in the last LEGO Creator Expert model.

While the rumours of a new LEGO roller coaster have not been officially confirmed, we’ve got a few features that we’d love to see in another LEGO Fairground Collection set, including one that might have already been confirmed.

A loop

The initial report for the potential brick-built attraction suggests that a loop could be included. Since the release of 10261 Roller Coaster in 2018, some have already attempted to include such a section in modified track layouts of the Creator Expert set, including Rafael Konieczny on YouTube using two of the model.

The build suggested by the YouTuber places existing track pieces at angles to form a complete loop, though the LEGO designers might opt for a sturdier construction in an official creation.

Theming

The most recent addition to the Fairground Collection of Creator Expert, 10273 Haunted House, suggested that a suitable level of theming could be included in the subtheme. The currently available build uses the characters and story of Adventurers to enhance the ride experience, and we’d like to see a new LEGO roller coaster attempt something similar.

As for what topic or genre a brick-built roller coaster could be based on, the LEGO Group have already released a smaller build of the attraction using pirate decorations in 31084 Pirate Roller Coaster, offering inspiration for how a past theme or other subjects could be integrated into a Creator Expert model.

More non-coaster builds

10261 Roller Coaster didn’t just focus on the ride in the set, with a winding path that took minifigures to the station and past stands for juice and commemorative photos. These helped 10261 Roller Coaster feel like a larger section of a theme park or fairground without expanding outside of the required space.

Similar stalls would be a welcome addition to a new LEGO roller coaster, with more options for merchandise depending on whether a theme is mixed into the model. Otherwise, additional decorations and greenery could enhance the queue area, while adding a short non-coaster break to the building experience.

An updated park map

As the LEGO Creator Expert Fairground Collection has grown, so has the park that almost every ride is featured in. 10261 Roller Coaster included a map of this park, depicting 10247 Ferris Wheel, 10261 Roller Coaster and 10257 Carousel.

However, 10273 Haunted House was launched after the release of 10261 Roller Coaster and is missing from the map. We’d like to see an updated version of the guide feature in a new roller coaster, recognising the attraction as the latest addition to the fairground.
