New Ghostbusters sequel director uses LEGO set to plan out the movie

It appears the new director of the upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel is already using an official LEGO set to plan out shots for the movie.

The sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife was first announced back in April of this year, with the follow-up to the franchise film (currently codenamed ‘Firehouse’) due to arrive on December 20, 2023. Although many fans assumed that Afterlife’s director, Jason Reitman, would once again be calling the shots on set, it now appears that isn’t the case.

It’s been officially announced that Ghostbusters: Afterlife’s co-writer and executive producer Gil Kenan will be directing the supernatural sequel, with Reitman transitioning into the role of writer-producer. Kenan has previously directed a number of films including Monster House and City of Ember (with Bill Murray) and is a self-confessed lifelong Ghostbusters fan.

Reitman himself followed up on the news on social media, with his Instagram page congratulating his friend on the role and revealing that the film’s new director is, ‘already on the job.’ As can be seen in the image above, it appears as if Kenan may be ‘busy’ using 75827 Firehouse Headquarters to plan out shots for the forthcoming film, which would make sense considering the movie’s working title and the fact that the iconic location was last seen in a Ghostbusters: Afterlife post-credits scene.

The set itself is long-since retired, joining other LEGO Ghostbusters models such as 21108 Ghostbusters Ecto-1 and 41622 Peter Venkman & Slimer. Just one LEGO set arrived to support Ghostbusters: Afterlife in 10274 Ghostbusters ECTO-1, which is still available now, but the success of the reboot film in 2021 gives us hope that the LEGO Group could get behind next year’s movie with additional minifigure-scale models.
