Gillian Anderson has praised the ‘very, very special’ LEGO The X-Files set revealed yesterday, while also applauding the LEGO Ideas programme that helped bring it to life.
The American actress shot to international stardom as Dana Scully in The X-Files and has now been immortalised as a minifigure in both 21369 The X-Files and its accompanying gift-with-purchase, 40896 The X-Files: Scully's Lab.
Speaking to Forbes, Anderson shared her admiration for the LEGO Group, her excitement at becoming a minifigure and her appreciation for LEGO Ideas.
"It was pretty cool when we ended up in a Simpsons episode – one of my favorites of all time," she said. "But I have to say that this is right up there with The Simpsons.
"It took this long to become reality. I mean, I literally thought that the idea had gone away. And it's such a leap! It was more likely to me that it would just kind of disappear.
"But for them to suddenly call up and say, by the way, this is actually coming to fruition… I mean, I understand, based on the detail of the set, why it has taken so long."
21369 The X-Files was designed by fan creator Brent Waller, whose previous LEGO Ideas sets include 21108 Ghostbusters Ecto-1 and 21328 Seinfeld.
Waller won the LEGO Ideas 90s Nostalgia Challenge in early 2025 after reviving a project he had originally submitted years earlier. During the development process, he even sent Anderson and David Duchovny, who played Fox Mulder, mock-ups of their minifigures, which both actors shared on social media.
"It's amazing that the LEGO Group allows fans to weigh in on what products they might create in the future," the 57-year-old added. "That's such a nod to the aspect of play that is the essence of the LEGO brand.
"Also, the fans are going to be even more excited and involved if they feel like it's been a set that has been led by the fans themselves. It's such a fantastic idea."
Anderson, who won a Golden Globe for her portrayal of FBI Special Agent Dana Scully, said her affection for The X-Files made the project even more meaningful.
She also praised the wealth of Easter eggs and references packed into the set, saying its reveal made her feel like a little kid again.
"I think the fans are just going to lose their minds when they get to see it, because it's got so many bits to it that you would wish for," she continued. "For anybody who's a die-hard fan, who would come up with what they would want to be included, I'm pretty certain that all of those elements are actually included in this set.
"It's just delicious. It's really very, very special. I just cannot wait for people to get their hands on it."
Finally, Anderson revealed that LEGO has long been a part of her routine, making the project especially meaningful.
"LEGO has been such a huge part of my life," she said. "We just built another shelf for another set."
You may have to put up another shelf yourself to display this one, but Anderson clearly believes it'll be worth it.
