Hideo Kojima buys so much LEGO that he’s got a backlog

Video game legend Hideo Kojima has just added another LEGO Star Wars set to his collection, a word which here means ‘backlog’.

If you’re fortunate enough to buy LEGO at a faster rate than you can build it, you’ll be familiar with the concept of a backlog. It’s a sealed collection of LEGO sets that you’ve bought with the best of intentions, but which continue to pile up as you struggle for time to actually put the things together. Leave it long enough and it’ll start haunting and taunting you, to the point you actively refuse to build any of it at all. (Maybe that last bit isn’t so universal.)

Don’t worry, though: you’re not alone in experiencing these symptoms of LEGO collector syndrome. Metal Gear Solid creator, all-round video game titan and self-confessed adult fan of LEGO Hideo Kojima is apparently going through exactly the same thing right now, having just added the newly-released LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series 75382 TIE Interceptor to his growing backlog of boxed sets.

Posting to X (formerly Twitter), Kojima shared first an image of himself with his new acquisition, and then a video of the Imperial starfighter perched precariously atop a pile of other recent (and not-so-recent) LEGO releases, including 10327 Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter, 75313 AT-AT, 10323 PAC-MAN Arcade, 21335 The Office and 10318 Concorde.

Several of those additions were shown off in real-time, with a pleased-as-punch Kojima revelling in his new LEGO purchases. But unless those boxes are empty, and they don’t really look it, he hasn’t actually gotten round to putting many of them together. Previous purchases not shown in the backlog include 75331 The Razor Crest and 10300 Back to the Future Time Machine, so maybe those are built and on display somewhere at least.

Otherwise, Kojima’s built himself a very fun backlog to work through… if he ever finds the time. (Is anyone else chanting ‘one of us, one of us’?)
