The next Indiana Jones movie boasts an impressive cast

Antonio Banderas has briefly discussed his role in the upcoming Indiana Jones movie, and could appear in future Indy content going forwards.

After Star Wars, Indiana Jones is Lucasfilm’s most beloved creation – and the fifth Indiana Jones movie is nearing release. Taking place in the late 1960s, the movie sees Indy joined by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who plays Indy’s god-daughter Helena. Other confirmed cast members include Mads Mikkelsen, Toby Jones, John Rhys-Davies – and Antonio Banderas, although – according to Collider – the latter has a relatively small role in the film overall.

“My character is very little; it’s almost a cameo[…] He’s just a friend of Indiana’s character, and he’s looking for him because he needs something from his friend,” Banderas said. “But he just takes up very little time of the movie, but very happy to be part of a saga that is of the history of motion pictures, obviously.”

Still, with rumours of new LEGO Indiana Jones sets, the potential for a LEGO Antonio Banderas is intriguing. Licensed LEGO sets often throw in characters with relatively minor roles in the movie, as the Star Wars theme has made clear. There’s also rumours of a new Disney+ TV show set in the Indiana Jones universe, which – depending on the time period – could see Banderas reprise his role in a future project, and bring another LEGO version with him.

We’re still waiting for confirmation from the LEGO Group on any new Indiana Jones products. But we should hopefully hear something before June 30, 2023, when the film is released. You can check out our roundup of LEGO Indiana Jones 2023 info in the meantime, to get a better sense of where the theme might go in the months ahead.
