J.D. Dillard is no longer developing a Star Wars movie

Another update to the upcoming Star Wars cinematic slate has arrived, confirming that J.D. Dillard is no longer developing a film.

In an interview with The Wrap J.D. Dillard has announced that he is no longer involved with the previously rumoured Star Wars movie stating that it is “unfortunately no longer a thing”. The wording of the quote strongly suggests that the movie isn’t happening anymore.

With this update and following the reveal that Shawn Levy is in talks to direct another Star Wars film, there are currently five confirmed Star Wars movies from Kevin Fiege, Taika Waititi and three from Rian Johnson as well as Rogue Squadron, which has been pulled from the current release schedule.

There’s also one rumoured movie from Damon Lindelof and Shawn Levy’s project that he is currently in talks for. Any of these could be suitable material for LEGO Star Wars sets, though the theme’s designers have demonstrated a willingness to pull from other sources recently such as Andor and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

For the time being, the focus of the Star Wars franchise appears to be on streaming with another season of The Mandalorian coming next year, other series and even short projects such as the recent Studio Ghibli collaboration
