Kylie Minogue reacts to LEGO Design VP’s ‘Padam Padam’ music video
LEGO Vice President of Design Matthew Ashton’s brick-built ‘Padam Padam’ music video has caught the attention of international superstar Kylie Minogue.
Billed as a ‘Padam-ic’ project (see what he did there), Ashton’s recreation of the music video for Kylie Minogue’s hit single Padam Padam went viral last week, racking up almost 350,000 views on Twitter and 275,000 views on Instagram. At least one of those viewers was the pop sensation herself, who has since retweeted the project, adding: “Love this so much!!”
Ashton’s music video captures the Padam Padam music video piece by piece, from the singer’s red-tinted hair and backup dancers to the TV set – borrowed from 71374 Nintendo Entertainment System – and very red bed. It’s the Kylie superfan’s first stop-motion video, which he describes as a ‘labour of love’ and a ‘tribute to Kylie Minogue, who has been a constant source of joy in my life since I was 11 years old’.
The designer also shared a behind-the-scenes video of his passion project, revealing how he built the sliding bar, Kylie’s blowing chiffon (hint: a trowel is involved) and even the singer’s minifigure, which borrows its torso and legs from Ashton’s 40516 Everyone is Awesome. “I was just getting crafty and making it up as I went along,” he explained in a caption. “There are probably some much simpler ways to do what I did but you live and learn.”
There’s a lesson in here for all of us, really: if you want your favourite pop star to notice you, all you have to do is build them in LEGO bricks. Excuse us while we go find the pieces for minifigure Dua Lipa…
