LEGO 10337 Lamborghini Countach’s open studs were unavoidable

LEGO 10337 Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole‘s designers had to make sacrifices for the model, including showing some studs.

While there’s comparisons to be made to 76908 Lamborghini Countach, the upcoming 10337 Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole is still an impressive recreation as you can read in our review. That said, it wasn’t created without some sacrifices.

During a recent roundtable interview with LEGO fan media, including Brick Fanatics, designer Sven Franic explained what had to be sacrificed and what didn’t quite make the cut in 10337 Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole

“I think we’ve had some people challenging things internally, like the pop-up lights,” explained Franic. “Yeah, I agree, it would be cool. But unfortunately, there are some things you have to compromise in favour of space and buildability. So in order for the model to be built in a certain way and be structurally solid, there is no space for that.”

Another aspect of the model that has drawn attention online is the few open studs towards the back of the car where the rest of the depiction offers flat surfaces. This was a similar sacrifice the design team had to make.

“Sometimes we don’t really have a choice” describes Franic. “Because, for example – wing plates – they only come in that form and we’ve never developed any tiled-style wing plates, with one exception. We do try to get a balance, but it’s sometimes quite tricky to find a good balance of studs where they don’t disrupt the flow.

“On this model, we had some studs on the front, but then it disrupted the lines so we decided not to put them there. And the current model kind of falls in naturally, it came organically. So where the studs are visible, it’s because we can’t really do anything about it.”

As stated in our review, the studs are noticeable and distract from the otherwise sleek design but it would appear there was no way around this without affecting more of the model than by simply leaving them be.

10337 Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole launches on July 1, 2024, for LEGO Insiders, or widely on July 4 for £159.99 / $179.99 / €179.99.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.

umm they can do plenty about it…create one without studs!!! can’t be that hard. yeah it wouldn’t look like it’s a Lego build but why does it have to have studs to say that it’s Lego??
