LEGO 40596 Magic Maze gift-with-purchase review

The LEGO Group’s run of unique gift-with-purchases continues thanks to the hands-on 40596 Magic Maze, available during the start of October.

Available at LEGO.com and in LEGO stores from October 1 through to October 9 or while stocks last, LEGO purchases of £130 / $150 / €150 will net a free copy of 40596 Magic Maze.

It’s one of several gift-with-purchases available at the start of October and represents another interesting and otherwise unexpected entry into the GWP collection from the LEGO Group.

This is another high-piece-count build packed with colour, various pieces and an interesting build that is somewhat evocative of the short-lived LEGO Ideas 21305 Maze, but with a lot more of an eye-catching design, and coming in at a friendlier, hand-held size.

And once complete, the maze really is a hands-on build, and not one that is simply all about tipping the direction of the set one way or another to manoeuvre one of the two balls included. There are a few steps that require some jumping/flipping, and some real thought for how to get from start to finish.

It’s a more involved play experience than first expected and leaves a far stronger impression as a result. For the start of another busy month of LEGO releases where spending as much as is required here is easier, it’s probably best-timed for more of us to end up with in the collection too, even if – if we are honest with ourselves – it wouldn’t necessarily be the type of GWP a lot of us would be actively targeting buying anything to have.

40596 Magic Maze is available from October 1 through to October 9, or while stocks last, free with purchases of £130 / $150 / €150 at LEGO.com or in LEGO stores.
