LEGO 40680 Flower Store gift-with-purchase review

LEGO 40680 Flower Store is the latest gift-with-purchase many of us will end up with, whether we’re collecting mini modular street sets or not.

Exclusive to LEGO Insiders, 40680 Flower Store is being awarded with spends of £180 / $200 / €200 at LEGO.com and in LEGO Stores from March 1 through to March 10, or while stocks last.

This 338-piece limited edition gift-with-purchase continues the series of microscale modular sets begun last year with the likes of 40583 Houses of the World 1 and 40590 Houses of the World 2. If you have those then this will instantly have more appeal, whilst if you don’t there’s still enough cutesy building to appreciate here and set the scene for a tiny florist.

That being said, the qualifying threshold is higher than a lot of recent gifts-with-purchase that have perhaps more immediately drawn in LEGO fans. The piece count is fair value and the design is nicely realised with some neat techniques in the build, but the subject material isn’t the most inspiring for broader audiences. The set is built in two separate halves, with the top part of the building able to be easily removed.

As a business, this florist stands to not make much money because the door is in fact a window pane – there’s no in or out to the shop. Whilst the stickers included are nice, unfortunately there’s little flexibility for other uses as they are also all set at microscale, so wouldn’t translate into anything minifigure scaled. Two exceptions are the florist signs included – two different versions to swap between, curiously.

In any case, we’re all likely to end up with at least one copy of this set intentionally or not, as it launches on March 1 when a whole host of excellent new releases hit LEGO.com too.

40680 Flower Store is available through to March 10, awarded with LEGO.com and LEGO Store purchases of £180 / $200 / €200, while stocks last. It is exclusive to LEGO Insiders, so set up an account at LEGO.com first if you haven’t already.

This set was provided by the LEGO Group for review purposes.

I’m spending less and less time on your site due to the number of adverts that keep popping up, even overlaying each other. Yes, I can (eventually) remove them but it gets to the point where I really can’t be bothered.
