LEGO 40689 Firework Celebrations rumoured for May 2024
All eyes may be on LEGO Star Wars’ anniversary next month, but the LEGO Group apparently has another celebratory gift-with-purchase up its sleeve that isn’t tied to May the 4th…
While LEGO Star Wars fans are filling their boots with 30680 AAT, 5008818 Battle of Yavin and 40686 Trade Federation Troop Carrier – all of which will be free with qualifying purchases from a galaxy far, far away from May 1 to 5 – the LEGO Group will also reportedly have an original gift-with-purchase up for grabs in 40689 Firework Celebrations.
That’s according to Instagram user fateful_lego, who says the 184-piece set will drop on May 1. No other details are available at the time of writing on the set’s supposed availability – how long it will be available for, how much you’ll need to spend to get it and so on – but the same source has shared a full description of what to expect from its contents.
True to its name, 40689 Firework Celebrations will apparently depict a small scene of two minifigures enjoying a fireworks display. Two fireworks have already launched, and are ‘displayed as effects’, while a third is said to be getting prepped for launch. The model is set against a black wall, decorated with stickers of stars and fireworks, while there also small builds for a flower and a box of fireworks.
The minifigures are rumoured to consist of a father and daughter, accompanied by a camera and sparkler respectively, while the child is said to use the blue, pink and white torso numbered 6382240 at Pick a Brick (where it’s currently available for £1.12 in the UK). While this is a pretty detailed description, it’s still worth treating lightly until we get official confirmation of this set from the LEGO Group.

Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
