LEGO 40769 SEGA Genesis Controller revealed

The newest LEGO game console recreation has been revealed as 40769 SEGA Genesis Controller, depicting a portion of the iconic SEGA console.

The 260-piece 40769 SEGA Genesis Controller has been officially revealed, joining LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog with a value of £16.99 / $19.99 / €19.99. That doesn’t necessarily confirm that this will be a set for purchase, though. The set number and UK value suggest that it may be a promotional item given away with qualifying purchases.

This is only speculation on our part, and we’ll update should the full details be revealed. Either way, we know that this set will be released in some form on September 8, 2025, less than one week away. 40769 SEGA Genesis Controller only recreates the controller of the SEGA console with a small stand, as opposed to the full black box.

It should still display perfectly alongside the LEGO Atari 2600 and Nintendo Entertainment System, and similar to those builds, it hides a secret. Turn the LEGO controller around, and you’ll find a microscale Green Hill Zone display with a printed Sonic the Hedgehog tile. The Blue Blur is depicted in ball form, going around one of the zone’s iconic loops, and you’ll find additional decorated elements similar to those from the LEGO Ideas Sonic the Hedgehog set alongside him.

The decorated details continue as the back of the box confirms that an additional sticker will be provided to change the LEGO controller from that of the SEGA Genesis to the Mega Drive, which the console was named outside of North America. We can only hope that this model will be easy to acquire with such a tempting package for gaming enthusiasts.

Here’s a look at every LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog set currently confirmed for 2025, while we wait for September 8.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.

Will this be rebranded as Sega Mega Drive for everywhere else in the world other than North America, or will this be exclusive to that region? Seems expensive for them to change tile printing and box packaging
