LEGO 71039 Marvel Series 2 six-packs aren’t the solution fans hoped for

If you’ve been hoping that buying two six-packs of LEGO 71039 Marvel Series 2 would solve your blind box woes, you might want to think again.

The switch to boxes instead of plastic bags has caused a large amount of chaos among fans, particularly those who are keen to get a full set of all 12 minifigures included in 71039 Marvel Series 2 without too many duplicates. While some collectors are backing various identification methods, others are ripping into boxes in shops to see what lies within.

One method of reducing the risk of duplicates came with the reveal of boxes of six minifigures, available to buy in the United States for $29.99. The LEGO Group promised “a random selection of six characters”, so the chances seemed good that buying two or even three boxes would raise your chances of getting a full set.

However, LEGO YouTuber MiniSuperHeroesToday put that theory to the test in their latest video, buying three packs and seeing what they got. While the test did confirm that the boxes appear to be split into set groups of six, it also made it clear that it’s entirely possible to be sent multiple packs of the same six-minifigure set – as he did, three times over.

MiniSuperHeroesToday did note that all six boxes had the exact same codes and product numbers on the outside, so that might offer some clue that they were all the same six (namely, Wolverine, Agatha, Werewolf by Night, the Wasp, Beast, and Storm). However, as the only way to get these six packs at the moment is ordering online, there’s no way of checking those codes before you buy.

With the complete of set of 12 apparently split into two sets of six to fill these boxes, buying multiple of them does reduce the risk of getting duplicates, as opposed to buying individual minifigures, for example. However, it doesn’t remove that risk entirely. The only way to do that, as it stands, is buying a pack of 36, which will definitely get you all 12 – but also leave you with quite a few left over, unless you plan to sell them on or find some like-minded friends to split the large box of 36 minifigures with.

Check out MiniSuperHeroesToday’s test in full over on their YouTube channel, or via the embedded video below.

There are plenty of different options for how to pick up 71039 Marvel Series 2 now, with options of buying individual minifigures in stores, packs of six boxes, cases of 12, and cases of 36 now available. In addition, if you’re feeling lucky and want to buy them truly blind, you can order the new Collectible Minifigures from LEGO.com now for £3.49 per minifigure.
