— Where to buy LEGO DREAMZzz 71476 Zoey and Zian the Cat-Owl

LEGO DREAMZzz 71476 Zoey and Zian the Cat-Owl is available to buy from January 1 via LEGO.com and from LEGO Stores – and through third-party retailers – for £44.99 / $49.99 / €49.99. As part of the second wave of LEGO DREAMZzz sets, it’s still inspired by the first season of the animated show.

— LEGO DREAMZzz 71476 Zoey and Zian the Cat-Owl build —

LEGO DREAMZzz does its fantastical creatures best and there’s no other theme to get such a wide array of magical beasts. The nature of the show, with kids using their imaginations to create a whole world, means that we often meet creatures made up of a mixture of real-life animals – like the Cat-Owl.

The turquoise and blue Cat-Owl is the centrepiece of this build and, truly, of the entire theme. It brings the colour and play possibilities that are LEGO DREAMZzz’s strength, while also including enough unique elements and eye-catching colours to make it well worth displaying as well. The bright feathers work either as wings or as an impressive tail, depending on which version of Zian you build.

71476 Zoey and Zian the Cat-Owl is only let down as a display set by the tricky positioning of the legs. Each one is made up of jointed parts which can technically be turned around for an illusion of flight, or posed in any number of ways, with hinged ankles, knees, and shoulders. The use of curved parts in the legs, however, means that if you want to stand the Cat-Owl on its own four feet, you’ll need to arrange them exactly the right way, otherwise it’ll topple over. This is trickier than it sounds and we’d imagine even more so for children, the target audience of these sets.

Outside of the main build, you also get two mini-build modes of transport for both the good guys and the bad guys: a flying motorcycle for Cooper and the winged flying minion for the evil Night Hunter to make his getaway on. As always, the black and pink villains pack more of a punch than the goodies (although we’ll never stop loving Zoey’s vibrant hairpiece), complete with a fresh array of printed eyepieces to make their nightmarish faces all the more impactful.

Taking a closer look at the minifigures, they’re as impressive an array as possible. While some other LEGO DREAMZzz sets from this wave include at least one disappointing minifigure (ahem, 71475 Mr. Oz’s Space Car), 71476 Zoey and Zian the Cat-Owl knocks it out of the park with each one. Enough so that they stand out even when stood next to the brightly coloured Cat-Owl.

Zoey is a repeat from the previous wave but she’s just as impressive as in her first appearance, with her coiled purple hair and functional weapon. Her face is also printed with purple make-up, matching her entire outfit and pairing nicely with Zian when she rides it.

Cooper is similarly detailed, down to the dimple in his chin. His red armour warms up what would otherwise be a very cool-toned set and his signature utility belt is a cool element that could easily work for other custom minifigures.

As noted above, however, it’s the villains that steal the show, as is the case with most LEGO DREAMZzz sets. All represented in all black, they’re led by the Night Hunter, complete with a new spooky hat emblazoned with a creepy eye. That imagery is shared between all three characters, with Sneak’s minifigure head easily being the coolest with a yellow eye and equally yellowed teeth. Snivel is also a fun addition, with the use of an oversized head on his tiny body making him a doubly intriguing design.

— LEGO DREAMZzz 71476 Zoey and Zian the Cat-Owl price —

As the second-most expensive set from the theme, 71476 Zoey and Zian the Cat-Owl‘s RRP of £44.99 does seem slightly high, considering that the main build is a fairly compact animal. We imagine some of that budget went towards the bright green feathers, which are undoubtedly impressive, but it would perhaps feel worth the price if Zian was slightly more substantial. Having legs that could more easily support its weight, for example, would have made it more suited to display, as well as play, increasing the perceived value.

— LEGO DREAMZzz 71476 Zoey and Zian the Cat-Owl pros and cons —

Despite being slightly overpriced for what you get, 71476 Zoey and Zian the Cat-Owl is still an impressive addition to LEGO DREAMZzz. The main build of Zian is fun to do and looks just as good as it is to interact with. The selection of minifigures doesn’t leave a chink in the armour, culminating in an overall impressive set that stands out from the rest of the LEGO DREAMZzz 2024 sets we’ve seen so far.

— Alternatives to LEGO DREAMZzz 71476 Zoey and Zian the Cat-Owl —

When thinking about similar sets to 71476 Zoey and Zian the Cat-Owl, two other buildable creatures from LEGO DREAMZzz spring to mind: 71453 Izzie and Bunchu the Bunny and 71457 Pegasus Flying Horse. The former is quite a bit cheaper than 71476 Zoey and Zian the Cat-Owl, but has similar options of flying versus grounded creature. It’s even pretty similar in terms of size and design, with the same curved toes as Zian. If you’re keen for a play-centred set but don’t want to break the bank, 71453 Izzie and Bunchu the Bunny is a strong choice – plus you get the marginally more impressive Izzie minifigure, rather than Zoey.

If Zoey is more your speed, however, 71457 Pegasus Flying Horse is an excellent choice. Plus, you get far more substantial mini-builds for roughly the same price as 71476 Zoey and Zian the Cat-Owl, making it a compelling option when it comes to mid-range LEGO DREAMZzz sets.
