As strange and diverse as LEGO DREAMZzz sets based on the heroes of the animated TV show are, their villainous counterparts always manage to take things up a notch or two. Case in point is 71495 Mateo vs. Cyber Brain Mech, a 368-piece set billed as a 2-in-1 model, but one that actually includes a trio of different creatures to create.

Following the set’s illustrated story instruction manual, builders first assemble the Cyber Brain, a floating creation that boasts a trans-pink dome on its rotatable head that opens up to reveal a pulsing brain underneath.

We’ve seen that particular element included in three previous LEGO DREAMZzz sets to date and the piece also pops up in this summer’s 71499 Mateo’s Spray Paint Truck too. A couple of stickers are also required at this stage, with a total of 11 included with the build.

You’ll then have the option of constructing either the towering Cyber Brain Mech or scuttling Cyber Brain Scorpion. We went with the former first, adding gangly trans-pink and black limbs to the Cyber Brain, which essentially acts as a torso for the two alternate models.

Once assembled, the villainous creation towers over the included Mateo minifigure, complete with spikey shoulder pads and sharp claws. The beast also boasts four removable modular stud shooters that are sold as being compatible with other LEGO DREAMZzz 2025 sets, but could just as easily be used with any other LEGO models.

The Cyber Brain Mech is then rounded out with a formidable staff that terminates in a new trans-pink pixelated piece and comes in handy for draining the brain power from any hapless Dreamlings it happens to catch.

Those who decide to assemble the LEGO DREAMZzz set’s Cyber Brain Scorpion instead can ditch the mech’s arms and legs, with the monster’s head swivelling round to face the other direction.

Six reworked limbs are then added to the beast, each of which are attached with ball and socket joints to provide plenty of dynamic play and display options. The vile villain is completed thanks to a suitably spikey and lethal tail weapon with stud shooter, plus a pair of snapping claws for snatching up more unsuspecting Dreamlings.

71495 Mateo vs. Cyber Brain Mech is rounded out with a minifigure of Mateo himself, which reuses an existing double-sided head and printed torso. In addition, the dream hero also receives a large mega goo shooter cannon and features Z-Blob as a protective cape, an impressive new element we hope to see in many future sets.

However, this iteration of Mateo seems to hint at some major changes that may be coming to the character in LEGO DREAMZzz Season 3, as he now boasts a green hand, plus a trans-bright green arm and leg (the latter with impressive front and side printing).

Finally, 71495 Mateo vs. Cyber Brain Mech also comes with a single VR Dreamling figure, with the tiny character having been introduced in 71491 Mateo and the Z-Blob Action Race Car, and reappearing here as cannon fodder for the set’s scary villain.
