This LEGO Marvel 76210 Hulkbuster rebuild is convincing people to buy the heavily-slated set

An alternate build of LEGO Marvel 76210 Hulkbuster is taking the community by storm – and might just save the much-maligned model’s dismal reputation.

The biggest LEGO Marvel set to date arrived to a lacklustre reception from the LEGO community in October last year, with critics calling out the gaps in its armour, odd proportions and loose attachment points. The LEGO Group subsequently slashed its asking price mere weeks after launch, and it almost feels like a footnote in the grand scheme of 2022 releases by now.

But that could all be about to change, thanks to an alternate build designed by prolific Rebrickable user Ransom_Fern. Their custom take on 76210 Hulkbuster reconfigures the Mark 44 suit into something that looks leagues ahead of the official design – and the best part is that it only uses the pieces included in the set, with no extra BrickLink or Pick-a-Brick orders required.

Custom on the left, original on the right.

That means you too can have a genuinely impressive LEGO Hulkbuster on display, which is great news if the only thing holding you back from picking up 76210 Hulkbuster was its design (rather than its basic concept). The proportions appear more accurate, the limbs more appropriately chunky, and there are all-around fewer gaps.

Simply put: the LEGO Group shouldn’t be surprised if it suddenly receives an influx of orders for what was surely an underperforming set. You only need to look to social media for the evidence to back up that assumption: one user tweeted that there’s now ‘finally a reason… to buy this set’, while multiple Rebrickable users have commented that they’ve now gone ahead and purchased a set they initially had no interest in.

If Ransom_Fern’s redesign picks up enough steam, it could genuinely save this heavily-criticised set’s poor reputation.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.

I was stunned by this alt build when I saw it on YouTube. It’s so good. I finally found the set on sale and grabbed it up. Huge props to Ransom Fern, he did a perfect job.
