LEGO Arkham offers alternative for light blue Classic Space airtanks

Those looking to expand their LEGO Classic Space astronaut collections with new colours may want to look to 76300 Arkham Asylum for one specific piece.

The LEGO Batman theme officially revealed 76300 Arkham Asylum at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, with what will be the fourth version of the Gotham City location to date launching for all on September 9, 2025.

The upcoming LEGO Batman build is the first-ever DC modular, one that sits on a 32×32 baseplate, and comes with an impressive 16 minifigures. In addition, 76300 Arkham Asylum will also include one specific recoloured element that will be of interest to those wanting to expand their LEGO Classic Space astronaut collections.

Those with a keen eye for detail may well have spotted that the LEGO Batman set’s Mr. Freeze minifigure is sporting light blue Classic Space airtanks, the exact same piece that was also recently-revealed to be in the upcoming 21359 Italian Riviera.

The LEGO Ideas model launches first on August 7 for LEGO Insiders (with a wider release from August 10), but might be a pricey purchase for those who have already picked up the light blue Classic Space torso from a recent LEGO DREAMZzz Build-a-Minifigure selection in LEGO Stores.

Likewise, obtaining the light blue Classic Space airtanks piece by purchasing 76300 Arkham Asylum represents an alternate but also expensive way to go, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed that the element will eventually pop up on Pick a Brick at some point.

In a recent roundtable interview discussing 21359 Italian Riviera, designer Mary Wilson mentioned that the LEGO Ideas team didn’t include the piece in the set on purpose, which might suggest it may have already been created specifically for Mr. Freeze in 76300 Arkham Asylum.

“I thought it was a nice contrast between the red flippers and the orange life jacket,” said Mary. “And then today, my co-workers are making fun of me because I didn’t know that it was perfect for Space. It was not on purpose.”

“I realised yesterday, the airtanks are a recolour, and everyone’s excited because of the Classic Space connection,” said fan designer of 21359 Italian Riviera, Alex Sahli. “I can’t believe I didn’t realise that, like I collect those guys. I was wondering, like, is that something that you all do intentionally, like, hide the pieces in different sets, or something just happens?”

76300 Arkham Asylum will be released on September 9 for £269.99 / $299.99 / €299.99, with the LEGO Batman model available to pre-order right now.
