LEGO Art Monet isn’t perfect but that’s a good thing

The newly revealed LEGO Art 31220 Claude Monet – Bridge over a Pond of Water Lilies isn’t perfect, but that’s a good thing.

31220 Claude Monet – Bridge over a Pond of Water Lilies was revealed earlier this week, using LEGO elements of various shapes, sizes, and colours to recreate an original piece from Claude Monet. Just like the original artwork, it might not be for everyone – but that’s exactly what makes it and LEGO Art sets like it so great. They are real expressions of brick-built art, catering (or not catering, as it were) to different people’s tastes.

In fact, it’s clear how much attention has been paid to the spirit of Monet’s original work and his wider career just from listening to LEGO Designer Stijn Oom talk about the LEGO Art set. Having also worked on 31215 Vincent van Gogh – Sunflowers, transforming an existing masterpiece into a LEGO one is nothing new to Stijn but his passion for creating both an impressive LEGO set and a faithful tribute is clear.

You can hear him talk about Monet and 31220 Claude Monet – Bridge over a Pond of Water Lilies for yourself by watching the embedded video below, as well as Brick Fanatics‘ own Matthew’s take on this set and its place in the LEGO Art theme as a whole.

LEGO Art 31220 Claude Monet – Bridge over a Pond of Water Lilies will be released on March 1, retailing for £179.99 / $249.99 / €199.99. LEGO Insiders receive early access on March 1, while the general release is planned for March 4.

I write about all the very best fandoms – and that means LEGO, of course. Spending so much time looking at and talking about LEGO sets is dangerous for my bank balance, but the LEGO shelves are thriving. You win some, you lose some.
