LEGO BrickHeadz might be the way forward for more Transformers sets

With only one rumoured large-scale Transformers set said to be on the way in 2025, LEGO BrickHeadz might be a better showcase for Cybetronian characters.

Official listings for two upcoming LEGO BrickHeadz sets finally went live yesterday, with 40803 Optimus Prime Robot & Vehicle and 40804 Bumblebee Robot & Vehicle due to launch on March 1, both priced at £17.99 / $19.99 / $19.99.

The pair of LEGO BrickHeadz builds offer miniature versions of the Autobot heroes and their vehicle modes, although we’ve already seen much larger versions of the characters. 10302 Optimus Prime landed in 2022 and 10338 Bumblebee arrived in 2024, but there are many more Robots in Disguise just waiting to become LEGO models.

Recent rumours suggest 10358 Transformers: Soundwave may be on the way in 2025, but the potential LEGO Icons set has yet to be officially confirmed. While LEGO BrickHeadz versions of Optimus Prime and Bumblebee will no doubt be appreciated by their fanbase, it’s time for the LEGO x Hasbro partnership to really spread its wings.

Recreating more Transformers as LEGO BrickHeadz builds would seem to be an ideal way to test the waters for addtional large-scale versions of Autobots and Decepticons down the line. The response from fans would certainly give TLG an indication as to which characters were popular, allowing for bigger and more detailed sets to be designed.

Instagram user and fan builder itavix_bricks had already created his own LEGO BrickHeadz build of Optimus Prime back in 2022, one that bears more than a passing resemblance to next month’s official release. Standing next to the Autobot leader is Megatron, a miniaturised version of the Decepticon who definitely comes off cute rather than threatening, a character that has yet to appear in LEGO form.

While G1 Megatron’s gun form would prove tricky considering TLG’s strict guidelines regarding brick-built weapons, the fan-made creations certainly show there’s more scope for LEGO Transformers to expand beyond the same two characters.

For now though, Transformers fans will be able look forward to adding 40803 Optimus Prime Robot & Vehicle and 40804 Bumblebee Robot & Vehicle to their collections when the LEGO BrickHeadz sets are released on March 1, 2025.
