The unexpected success of the BrickLink Designer Program continues this month with both crowdfunding for the Series 5 sets and the reveal of the five Series 8 finalists. The latter means it’s time for another update to the list of every LEGO BrickLink Designer Program finalist, which now boasts 40 fan-inspired models from the past two years.

bricklink series 2 mushroom house final 1024x618

A different kind of home from JonasKramm started another collection in Series 2, to be joined in the future by a much bigger build.

Series 2: Brick Cross Train Station

Pieces: 3,034 Minifigures: 8 Stickers: 14 Designer: brickester

bricklink series 2 brick cross final 1024x618

Brickester’s train station modular building continues Series 2 with everything from an eatery to a newsagent before minifigures even get to the platform.

Series 2: Ominous Isle

Pieces: 2,773 Minifigures: 4 Designer: Jazeera

bricklink series 2 ominous isle final 1024x618

LEGO Pirates’ Ominous Isle, which we reviewed here, may not be the most sturdy set, but it’s an interesting take on the classic theme that will pair well with a Series 5 submission and another from Series 7.

Series 3: Harbormaster’s Office

Pieces: 2,395 Minifigures: 4 Stickers: 13 Designer: Rich_Herbert

Rich_Herbert’s Harbormaster’s office pairs well with the LEGO Ideas Old Fishing Store, and you can read our review by clicking here following its crowdfunding phase.

Series 3: The Art of Chocolate

Pieces: 2,574 Minifigures: 7 Stickers: 27 Designer: brickester

Brickester was back in the BrickLink Designer Program as part of Series 3, offering up an educational chocolate-centric model.

Series 3: Forest Stronghold

Pieces: 3,208 Minifigures: 8 Stickers: 0 Designer: Krackenator

Krackenator presented a home for the Forestmen of LEGO Castle in Series 3, complete with a zipline, bridge and more than enough trees.

Series 3: Camping Adventure

Pieces: 643 Minifigures: 2 Stickers: 0 Designer: KingCreations

KingCreations’ CampingAdventure is much lighter on LEGO trees, but offers up another affordable LEGO BrickLink Designer Program model to crowdfund. While KingCreations would return multiple times in the program, it isn’t until Series 8 that they’re able to truly stretch their creative muscles.

Series 3: Lost City

Pieces: 3,332 Minifigures: 2 Stickers: 0 Designer: letsgolegobrick

Lost City by letsgolegobrick is one of the biggest LEGO BrickLink Designer Program sets with a ruined city model to explore.

Series 4: Merchant Boat

Pieces: 1,933 Minifigures: 2 Stickers: 3 Designer: NicolasCarlier

NicolasCarlier’s Merchant Boat gives fans a detailed boat build to mix into all manner of displays, with no specific theme or suggested home for the build.

Series 4: Wild West Train

Pieces: 2,760 Minifigures: 6 Stickers: 14 Designer: llucky

Llucky’s Wild West Train adds to the growing list of LEGO Wild West and train sets in the BrickLink Designer Program with a level of detail on par with 21344 The Orient Express Train.

Series 4: Medieval Seaside Market

Pieces: 2,183 Minifigures: 7 Stickers: 0 Designer: Bricks_fan_uy

As mentioned in our review, Bricks_fan_uy’s Medieval Seaside Market is brimming with life to add a unique aspect to your medieval LEGO world. It sold out extremely fast in Series 4, alongside the other Series 4 Castle set.

Series 4: Siege Encampment

Pieces: 2,637 Minifigures: 9 Stickers: 6 Designer: SleeplessNight

SleeplessNight’s Siege Encampment sold out fast, combining with the massive 10305 Lion Knights’ Castle with as much siege equipment as you could need in a single display. It’s one of the most popular LEGO BrickLink Designer Program sets since the first castle in Series 1.

Series 4: The Riverside Scholars

Pieces: 2,692 Minifigures: 4 Stickers: 0 Designer: Hanwas

Hanwas’ series of water-centric LEGO buildings continued with The Riverside Scholars in Series 4, showcasing a good range of colours, interior spaces and nature-infused builds.

Series 5: Adventure in Transylvania

Pieces: 4,056 Minifigures: 13 Stickers: 11 Designer: SleeplessNight

The most-voted project of any series up to Series 5 is SleeplessNight’s Adventure in Transylvania, and it has been transformed with few changes into a stunningly gothic build that will pair perfectly with the likes of Monster Fighters, Castle or even a modern world that needs a vampiric twist. This popular build has been expanded to 50,000 total sets, and they’re nearly sold out.

Series 5: Antique Shop

Pieces: 1,918 Minifigures: 6 Stickers: 10 Designer: ThatOneGuySteve

The Antique Shop by ThatOneGuySteve is a simpler, more refined model in Series 5, focusing heavily on interior details and furniture. It has received a few changes, most notably adding a minifigure to the staff, and it’s available now for crowdfunding.

Series 5: Mushroom Village

Pieces: 2,436 Minifigures: 7 Stickers: 0 Designer: JonasKramm

JonasKramm’s miniature world is back in Series 5 with the Mushroom Village, expanding the initial house with a whole host of homes in a considerably more dense build. Though some of the furnishings have changed inside, JonasKramm’s distinct touch is still present in the final design. It’s off to a slow start in the crowdfunding stage, but there’s still plenty of time and stock to add this build to your collection.

Series 5: Popcorn Wagon

Pieces: 594 Minifigures: 3 Stickers: 3 Designer: Mictur

Series 5’s Popcorn Wagon by Mictur is one of the smallest LEGO BrickLink Designer Program sets, adding one more minifigure than initially proposed. As a limited-edition and small build, it’s one worth picking up for the limited nature alone, and it would appear that many fans agree since this build is nearly sold out in crwodfunding.

Series 5: The Thieves of Tortuga

Pieces: 4,002 Minifigures: 13 Stickers: 7 Designer: Krackenator

Krackenator’s The Thieves of Tortuga remains huge but has been split into two islands in the final design. This makes the most more dynamic and easier to transport, as well as display. It is currently around 80% sold out in the current crowdfunding.

Series 6: The Art Factory

Pieces: 2,499 Minifigures: 8 Stickers: 13 Designer: Brickester

Brickester returned in Series 6 with The Art Factory, eschewing its modular design from Series 5 but keeping the same footprint in case you want to modify it accordingly. Such modifications shouldn’t be difficult, but the non-modular design has allowed for details within the foundation, such as a rat.

Series 6: Off-road Adventure

Pieces: 859 Minifigures: 2 Stickers: 0 Designer: KingCreations

KingCreations’ Off-road Adventure adds to Camping Adventure with a vehicle to pull the camper and another stunning nature-centric scene. This fan designer would return in Series 8, but with a much bigger model.

Series 6: Gold Mine Expedition

Pieces: 3,570 Minifigures: 7 Stickers: 12 Designer: Brickproject

Brickproject’s Gold Mine Expedition should be a treat for LEGO Wild West enthusiasts with multiple levels to explore and some secrets teased by the fan designer. This is likely to be a fun build, no matter how much changes in its transition to an official set.

Series 6: Sequoia Tree Trail

Pieces: 3,035 Minifigures: 9 Stickers: 12 Designer: Piece_On_Earth

Piece_On_Earth has recreated one of the biggest species of trees in an incredible build ideal for nature fans. There has been truly nothing quite like this in LEGO or BrickLink history and this will be an interesting build to watch when crowdfunding starts later this year.

Series 6: Outlaw Forest Den

Pieces: 2,452 Minifigures: 8 Stickers: 4 Designer: BrickHammer

The Wolfpack will soon have a home thanks to Brickhammer’s Outlaw Forest Den, packing in a lot of volume for under 2,500 pieces. Expect this one to sell out fast when crowdfunding for Series 6 starts. It should pair well with a Series 8 set, too.

Series 7: W.A.L.T. The Little Robot

Pieces: 663 Minifigures: 0 Stickers: 0 Designer: Leewan

Leewan’s adorable and emotive robot model is one of the smallest BrickLink Designer Program builds so far, currently transitioning from fan design to an official set. Here’s hoping it doesn’t lose the charming details, such as the alternate faces and batteries.

Series 7: Antique Collection

Pieces: 2,452 Minifigures: 8 Stickers: 4 Designer: terauma

The Antique Collection by terauma is proposed as a place to display your favourite pieces and minifigures in a vintage furniture recreation. It will be interesting to see how this project performs when crowdfunding for Series 7 starts.

Series 7: Alchemist’s Shop

Pieces: 2,126 Minifigures: 6 Stickers: 1 Designer: Shram

Series 7 doesn’t have a massive castle, but one would soon follow, but it does have a LEGO Castle model thanks to Shram’s Alchemist’s Shop, which has been designed to accompany the retired 21325 Medieval Blacksmith.

Series 7: Privateer Frigate Fortuna

Pieces: 4,000 Minifigures: 12 Stickers: 1 Designer: BrickPerfection

The colossal Privateer Frigate Fortuna comes from the aptly named BrickPerfection, and it’s sturdier than you’d think. It sits at the maximum of 4,000 pieces, making great use of every part.

Series 7: Sushi Restaurant

Pieces: 3,409 Minifigures: 7 Stickers: 4 Designer: Brickproject

Brickproject has another spot in the BrickLink Designer Program with their staggering 3,409-piece sushi restaurant. The modular design of this model makes it a perfect fit for a city display with minor modifications to the base, and the track section is removable, as well.

Series 8: Coconut Cape

Pieces: 2,425 Minifigures: 8 Stickers: 0 Designer: BallisticBricks

LEGO Pirates continues to have a spot in the BrickLink Designer Program with Series 8. BallisticBricks’ Coconut Cape comes with 2,425 pieces and eight minifigures with an in-depth fortress that should be more affordable than the current The Thieves of Tortuga.

Series 8: Brick Railroad Locomotive

Pieces: 1,428 Minifigures: 1 Stickers: 4 Designer: ThomasRoeder

LEGO trains are back with a modern twist in Series 8 thanks to ThomasRoeder. Their Brick Railroad Locomotive is one of the most thoughtful LEGO trains yet, and has been designed to be easy to motorise with a choice of additional elements.

Series 8: Dustmark Keep

Pieces: 4,000 Minifigures: 11 Stickers: 9 Designer: brickhucker

Brickhucker’s huge Dustmark Keep takes advantage of the maximum part count for the BrickLink Designer Program with a unique take on a castle focused on bounty hunters in a desert locale.

Series 8: University of Science

Pieces: 3,995 Minifigures: 13 Stickers: 7 Designer: KingCreations

KingCreations is back in the BrickLink Designer Program in Series 8, finally bringing their University of Science concept to life as a set, and easily adding education to your LEGO cities, but almost certainly for a high price.

Series 8: Hot Air Balloon

Pieces: 876 Minifigures: 1 Stickers: 0 Designer: ExeSandbox

ExeSandbox looks likely to be the most affordable build of Series 8, recreating a colourful balloon soaring in the skies with a pair of birds, a minifigure and a dog floating on a sea of clouds, perfect for a simple but effective display.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
