LEGO is cancelling BrickLink Designer Program Series 4 orders at the last minute
The LEGO Group is reportedly cancelling some BrickLink Designer Program Series 4 orders just as sets start to ship, leaving fans confused and upset.
BrickLink Designer Program Series 4 sets have just started to arrive with backers who pre-ordered in February, but multiple fans across reddit and Facebook are reporting that the LEGO Group has cancelled their orders at the very last minute, having apparently not produced enough sets to fulfil all pre-orders. Redditor ThomasTyndan, for example, says they were informed by customer support that the LEGO Group ‘oversold’ Series 4 sets due to ‘a glitch’.
Over on the Facebook group LEGO SHOWOFF, Kim Yoder Anthony reports that their order for Riverside Scholars, Merchant Boat and Wild West Train – placed on February 11, a week after crowdfunding opened and when all three sets were still available to pre-order – was cancelled thanks to ‘some kind of error on [the LEGO Group’s] part with production’.

Plenty of other fans have reported similar experiences across reddit posts and within Facebook comments, and the common thread appears to be the three BrickLink Designer Program sets that didn’t sell out in Series 4: NicolasCarlier’s Merchant Boat, Hanwas’s Riverside Scholars and Ilucky’s Wild West Train.
That suggests this wasn’t a glitch allowing fans to pre-order more than the allotted maximum number of sets, as happened in the pilot program back in 2021, but instead a mismatch between the number of orders placed and the number of sets produced. The LEGO Group only manufactures as many of each BrickLink Designer Program sets as are pre-ordered, with a little overspill to account for lost or damaged shipments.
In this case, the numbers seemingly haven’t tallied properly – leading to the last-minute cancellation of orders and widespread disappointment, confusion and upset among backers. Some fans have reported receiving token gestures from customer support, such as $25 or $50 in Insiders points, but these sets are likely to sell for an even bigger markup on the aftermarket when all’s said and done.
We’ve reached out to the LEGO Group for further clarification on these reports, so keep an eye on Brick Fanatics for updates, and let us know in the comments if you’ve been affected and can shed any further light on the situation. My partner ordered Adventure in Transylvania in Australia in June, and it was cancelled without notice. He’s devastated 🙁
Got mine last week. Good to go.
Same happened to me on the Merchant Ship. Received cancelation email on June 30, 2025. Have been in contact with Lego Customer Service. Multiple reps told me that I canceled my order, which was not the case. Eventually, spoke with manager about the situation. Was told they are aware of the situation but not much is being done to make it right with the consumer. Was provided with a gift card and points. Very disappointed with Lego and question future BDP purchases.
Lego was also making mistakes when it ships. instead of receiving the two medieval themed sets in the series, I received extra wild West train sets.
I wrote to Lego support but have yet to hear back. I wonder if they had a shipping issue that has caused them to come up short on certain things and they haven’t quite yet figured out where everything is or how to get them back.
I appreciate you reporting on this.
well hopefully they started with those who had multiples of each order so that they can at least root out scalpers. still its a big pie in the face for lego logistics
I opened the article to see if there was any news on the issue, only to see my name cited. Is this my 15 min of fame?
On a serious note, I hope Lego can do something to make this better, while insider points are a good start, I don’t necessarily feel it is sufficient.
They are setting up a system for limited run products, and an artificial scarcity. For customers to want to pre-order in good faith they need to deliver on it. It’s not as bad as a failed Kickstarter, but it feels bad knowing we not have to miss out on something that should feel more guaranteed and cannot now be purchased without significant cost.
yes
Lego got back to me this evening with an apology but only an offer for me to be able to return the extra sets
they claimed to be out of stock of the sets they didn’t send me and at least at this stage aren’t offering me anything
I bought two Wild West Train sets and only received one. When I complained to Lego, they just said too bad, here is your money refunded. I ended up calling their customer support to complain and after an hour of arguing, Lego agreed to give me $75.00 in addition to my refunded $300.00. Still, it’s not enough to buy another set from the scalpers. I wonder WHO has my other set, where did it go, why Lego sucks at accounting.
That’s awful to hear. I got my sets last Friday
I just received my 3 Bricklink orders in the last couple of days. All 3 had damage, contacted Lego and they want to give me 3250 points ($25) for each item or return for refund. I was going to return the Wild West Train set, but after reading this, I will probably hang on to it and take the points.
