The LEGO Group officially reveals its giant model of Captain America’s Shield

If you’ve ever wanted to build the Sentinel of Liberty’s mighty shield out of LEGO bricks, you’re in luck – a replica model is now listed on LEGO.com.

In a similar fashion to 76209 Thor’s Hammer from last year, 76262 Captain America’s Shield is meant to be a life-size LEGO re-creation of an iconic Marvel prop. The shield’s appearance here is based on its look in the MCU films, but there isn’t anything too specific that sets it apart from any other version of the iconic shield, whether it be in comic books, video games, or cartoons.

Releasing August 1 for £179.99 / $199.99 / €209.99, the 3,128-piece shield is an impressive 18.5 inches (48 cm) tall and wide, but that doesn’t quite put it at life-size. In the films, the prop that Chris Evans uses is around 25 inches in diameter, while the comics have the shield listed at 30 inches. Rested on the stand included in the set, though, the LEGO version still looks quite large and will certainly make an impression on display.

The set comes with one minifigure, which is, you guessed it, Captain America. Marvel’s signature boy scout comes in what appears to be his Avengers: Age of Ultron costume, with both a helmet and a hair piece to swap between. Weirdly enough, the minifigure is holding Mjolnir, Thor’s hammer, in one hand – which only happened in Avengers: Endgame.

The elephant in the room when discussing this set is, of course, the build experience. It’s not exactly hard to figure out that this set’s build is going to be highly repetitive in order to properly represent the shield’s circular, symmetrical design. It’s yet to be seen if the designers have thrown in some interesting techniques to break up the monotony – let’s hope they did.
