LEGO Chinese Traditional Festivals 2024 sets revealed

The LEGO Group has revealed a wave of Chinese Traditional Festivals 2024 sets at the annual China International Import Expo.

A total of four different LEGO sets are on the way in 2024 to celebrate the Year of the Dragon, including two large sets – one purely for display, the other anchored around minifigures – a Disney-themed BrickHeadz and what looks likely to be a gift-with-purchase. Official images of the two larger Chinese Traditional Festivals 2024 sets have popped up on the LEGO Builder app, while Wooden Duck has photographed the others on the show floor.

Check out all four new LEGO Chinese Traditional Festivals sets below. Details including prices, some piece counts and release dates have yet to be confirmed, but we’ll hopefully see full product listings for these sets on LEGO.com later today.

Marking the first crossover between a licensed theme and the Chinese Traditional Festivals range, 40673 Spring Festival Mickey Mouse adds a Lunar New Year twist to Disney’s most iconic character. Two copies were on display side by side at the sixth China International Import Expo, but the model presumably only includes one in the box.

40678 Festival Calendar

Price: TBC Pieces: TBC Release date: TBC

As originally teased by a listing on the building instructions server, 40678 Festival Calendar offers a handy desk calendar for 2024, along with a buildable dragon boat and a minifigure. The numbering for the year is built from plates and tiles, so could be easily modified for use beyond just next year, while the product numbering here (40678) suggests this may be a gift-with-purchase.

80112 Auspicious Dragon

Price: TBC Pieces: 1,171 Release date: TBC

2024 is the Year of the Dragon, and the first of two larger LEGO Chinese Traditional Festivals sets leans into that theme with 80112 Auspicious Dragon. This display piece includes an enormous dragon situated atop a rocky base, and measures a hefty 35cm long and 26cm tall. The lifestyle images suggest the set includes plenty of articulation, too – from its mouth down to its tail.

80113 Family Reunion Celebration

Price: TBC Pieces: 1,823 Release date: TBC

Calling back to 2019’s 80101 Chinese New Year’s Eve Dinner – the very first Chinese Traditional Festivals set, which was only available to purchase in the Asia-Pacific region – 80113 Family Reunion Celebration recreates the family gathering of that earlier set across a two-storey restaurant. The minifigure-heavy model now includes space for a kitchen, bathroom, rooftop seating area and plenty of colourful details.

Each floor is removable, but the base isn’t compatible with modular buildings right out of the box, unlike previous Chinese New Year set 80107 Spring Lantern Festival. Still, it shouldn’t be too tricky to adapt to that format…

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
