LEGO comes second-place to Barbie among adult toy fans

A study has revealed that LEGO is the second-most common toy that British adults have saved since childhood – second only to Barbie.

Yes, you read that right. We’re shocked too. According to a recent study of 2,000 adults by nursery chain Busy Bees, as reported by the Daily Express, LEGO is the second-most common toy that adults have kept in their homes since childhood. On average, adults have kept 20 toys in their homes, with 65% planning to pass them down to future generations in time.

In addition, people like to take care of those old collections of toys, with 79% of people saying dusting them off and maintaining them makes them feel nostalgic. While 13% claim to have kept their childhood toys in mind condition and 43% in a ‘good state’, the country is divided about selling them, with 47% saying they have no intention of selling.

Barbie is the number one toy that features in such collections, with LEGO coming second, followed by Hot Wheels, G.I. Joe, and Suzy Homemaker making up the rest of the top five. Of course, this survey is focusing on toy collections that people have kept since childhood, rather than ongoing collections begun or continued by adults. That means that grown-up collectors may not factor into these figures.

I write about all the very best fandoms – and that means LEGO, of course. Spending so much time looking at and talking about LEGO sets is dangerous for my bank balance, but the LEGO shelves are thriving. You win some, you lose some.
