LEGO confirms distribution for VIP add-on packs

The LEGO Group has confirmed that the recently-revealed VIP add-on packs will be distributed to selected VIP members across a six-month trial.

Images of three of the four Xtra-style sets originally appeared online last month, but we’ve been in the dark over how to get our hands on them – until now. The LEGO Group has now randomly chosen an unrevealed number of VIP members in the UK to receive codes for the add-on packs over the next six to eight months, before determining whether to roll them out to all VIP members.

A new add-on pack will be revealed and released every two months, and each VIP member taking part in the trial will be emailed two unique codes to redeem it. That means if you’ve been chosen to take part, you’ll be able to pick up two of each add-on pack. Only one code can be used per order, though, so you’ll have to place multiple orders every two months to max them out.

The first theme is ‘Fun and Funky’, which – as the LEGO Group’s building instructions portal revealed – is an assortment of colourful elements, minifigure accessories and animals in 40512 Fun and Funky VIP Add On Pack. Subsequent packs will include 40514 Winter Wonderland VIP Add On Pack, 40515 Pirates and Treasure VIP Add On Pack and 40513 Spooky VIP Add On Pack.

At the end of the trial, the LEGO VIP team will ask participating members to fill in a short survey. They’ll then evaluate the feedback and decide whether to introduce these add-on packs as a benefit for all VIP members. According to the LEGO Engagement Team, the emails for the first stage of the trial have already gone out, so check your inbox to see if you’ve been selected to take part.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
