LEGO designer reveals excitement for 43221 100 Years of Disney Animation Icons

The Design Master behind 43221 100 Years of Disney Animation Icons has taken to social media to reveal his excitement for the upcoming set.

Two new LEGO Disney sets were revealed earlier today, with both 100th anniversary builds targeting a June 1, 2023 release date. 43215 The Enchanted Treehouse is a 1,016-piece model that will come with 13 mini-dolls, while 43221 100 Years of Disney Animation Icons clocks in at 1,022 pieces and mixes LEGO DOTS with a little LEGO Art to create a customisable framed display piece.

Building on those themes, 43221 100 Years of Disney Animation Icons includes enough elements to construct an impressive 72 different Disney character portraits, from Donald Duck and Dumbo to Pluto and Olaf. In addition, the set also comes with a unique Mickey Mouse minifigure, complete with paint-stained overalls.

43221 100 Years of Disney Animation Icons is the brainchild of LEGO Design Master Marcos Bessa, the creative mind behind such previous models as 76405 Hogwarts Express Collectors’ Edition, the Hogwarts Moments sets and LEGO Harry Potter buildable animals. A self-proclaimed Disney superfan, Bessa has taken to social media to express his excitement for the new-revealed anniversary model.

“After a long wait, I can finally announce one of my newest LEGO designs!” wrote Bessa on his Instagram page. “For the past year and a half I’ve been part of the incredible team behind the LEGO Disney 100 assortment (and much more Disney related awesomeness!). This “100 Years of Disney Animation Icons” LEGO set is a project I got to develop from the start all the way to the finish line and I’m so proud of the experience we managed to create for kids 6+.”

Bessa went on to say, “There are a total of 72 designs included for inspiration, but coincidentally (or not? :)), there are just a few missing to hit the mark of “100 icons”… I’ll be looking forward to see what people can come up with using the selection of parts included in the set and might even find a way to showcase my favorites here on my Instagram at some point! ;)”

43221 100 Years of Disney Animation Icons will be released on June 1, 2023 and be priced at £49.99 / $59.99 / €54.99.
