LEGO designer transmits original plans for UCS Death Star
LEGO Star Wars designer César Soares has shared some early drawings detailing how 75419 Death Star would be laid out.
Speaking on a livestream launching LEGO Star Wars 75419 Death Star, César was among various LEGO employees who worked on the UCS set. They explained some of the process of designing the build, with César even whipping out some early drawings that carried through into the final design – the LEGO Group’s very own Death Star plans.
“We picked up a pen and paper and drew the schematics of the Death Star,” explained César. “Then we could start deciding where each room was going to go.”
César then showed the original plans, handing them over far more easily than it was to get Galen Erso’s plans out of Scarif. On it, you can see that the early concept of the model holds true to the final version.

“As you can see, all the rooms are laid out,” he continued. “It made sense for us to, for example, put the trash compactor on the bottom, because in the movie it’s on the lower levels, and the Emperor’s throne room would be somewhere on the top.”
Other early annotations include ‘Hallway?’, ‘cell block’, ‘control room’, and so on. There are a couple of empty gaps where the conference room and meditation chamber would eventually end up, but the central structure, including the placement of the laser and lift, have endured.
You can catch up on the full livestream from the reveal here, as well as our visual tour of 75419 Death Star here. The UCS set is due for release on October 1 for LEGO Insiders and on October 4 for general release, retailing at £899.99 / $999.99 / €999.99.
