LEGO designer pays tribute to retired themes for Halloween

The LEGOLAND New York Resort’s model team is paying tribute to long-retired themes with some seasonal and spooky models.

LEGOLAND resorts around the world celebrate Halloween with a range of seasonally appropriate models, decorations and other events. However, the recently opened New York location is leaning further than the rest into nostalgia this Halloween.

Master model builder and model designer at the resort, Cody Avery, has shared a selection of the park’s decorations on Instagram – and they’re worth a look.

While two of the headstones shared online feature the expected skeleton and more general references to LEGO bricks, the other two are a lot more specific.

The headstones pay homage to BIONICLE and even Galidor, the latter of which has a very short lifespan as displayed on the model. Nick Bluetooth’s voice actor, Matthew Ewald has even commented on the build.

Model designer Joey Klusnick has revealed more of the park’s headstones on their Instagram page, including one for Johnny Thunder and a popular LEGO City meme.

Realistically, most younger guests to the resort aren’t going to recognise the BIONICLE mask or Nick Bluetooth especially, so these are more than likely catering to older enthusiasts visiting for the Halloween season – the hard work is almost certainly going to be appreciated. Still, we never thought we’d see Galidor in LEGOLAND.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
