The LEGO Foundation donates $13.6 million in support of Ukrainian Children

The LEGO Foundation has announced a huge donation to support the education of children and the rebuilding of Ukraine’s education system.

This is slightly less than the LEGO Foundation’s, theLEGOGroup’s and Ole Kirk’s Fond’sprevious combined donation towards Ukraine but is no less significant in both the amount and its support.

The $13.6 million donation is equal to 100 million DKK and will be distributed to various partners to rebuild the education system in the region. The LEGO Foundation will also donate equipment to educational institutions.

“As we start a new academic year in Ukraine, we must acknowledge how different an experience it will be for many of our children,” comments Oksana Roma, Country Manager Ukraine, The LEGO Foundation. “Traditionally, this day is celebrated with First Bell ceremonies in class that highlight the importance of children’s education for the successful future of Ukraine.

“This donation seeks to ensure the children of Ukraine, either in Ukraine or neighbouring countries such as Moldova and Romania, can continue their education despite the severe disruption they have experienced due to the war, and before that the global pandemic.

“Working with trusted and valued partners, we will help maintain learning opportunities that develop the skills children need for the future. This has always been, and will continue to be, crucial to building a world that offers inclusive equitable education for all.”

Previous responses from the LEGO Group regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine have included the company ceasing operations in Russia indefinitely.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
