LEGO reportedly halts shipments to Russia
The LEGO Group has reportedly halted shipments to its brand stores in Russia, in response to sanctions imposed as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Multiple brands including Apple, H&M and Honda have all ceased exports to and/or halted sales in Russia, while others such as Google, Netflix and Spotify have all distanced themselves from Russia in various ways following the country’s invasion of Ukraine. According to Danish media outlet Finans, the LEGO Group has now joined that list.
Finans’ original story is behind a paywall, but a report from Reuters states that it quotes a LEGO Group spokesperson as saying: “We have suspended all shipments of products to Russia in light of the sanctions and the unpredictable operating environment.”
We’ve reached out to the LEGO Group for further clarification, but this wouldn’t be the company’s first and only response to the situation in Ukraine: earlier this week, the LEGO Foundation and the LEGO Group pledged an emergency donation of 110m DKK (roughly £12.3m) to support Ukrainian children and families.
It’s also told staff in Russia not to attend protests or even engage in public discussions over the invasion of Ukraine, reportedly out of concern for their ‘personal safety’. According to Reuters, an email sent to Russian staff advised the company’s employees ‘avoid discussing sensitive topics on the Russia-Ukraine and associated subjects in public and in social networks or internet overall’.

Author Profile
- I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
