With interactive features and colourful characters, 71475 Mr. Oz’s Space Car is a testament to the creativity of LEGO DREAMZzz vehicles.

While a largely white car is nothing to write home about, 71475 Mr. Oz’s Space Car‘s gold and sparkling blue elements make it stand out against most other vehicles of its ilk. You’d expect nothing else from the car that Mr Oz uses to rescue Jayden from the clutches of the Grimspawn (who is itself a standout for the set).

LEGO DREAMZzz 71475 Mr. Oz’s Space Car is available to buy from January 1 via LEGO.com and from LEGO Stores – and through third-party retailers – for £24.99 / $29.99 / €29.99. It’s part of the second wave of LEGO DREAMZzz sets, inspired by the first season of the animated show.

The main build of 71475 Mr. Oz’s Space Car is, naturally, the car itself. You can choose whether to build it in an almost tank-like frame with huge wheels, or as a hover car-style space vehicle. We opted for the latter, showing off the car’s crane function, which can grab a Grimspawn creature and hold it aloft.

The car itself is an engaging build, with plenty of smaller details to flesh it out as a space-based vehicle. The wings on the side are decorated with just a few stickers, but much of the colour comes from the sparkling blue dome that holds Mr. Oz inside and the yellow plate decor that frames the otherwise largely white vehicle.

As noted, at least one minifigure, namely Mr. Oz, can fit inside the vehicle, as well as a spot for Albert to perch on top. The pair are on a mission to rescue Jayden, the other minifigure included in the set, from the Grimspawn. While it’s great to get another character in the set, Jayden is a rather dull minifigure in comparison to some others in the theme – but more on that later.

He’s paired with the most dull buildable element of the set too: his mini rover. If you build the space rover version of 71475 Mr. Oz’s Space Car, you get the marginally more engaging mini shuttle but the plain white and black colour scheme of both makes them appear rather drab next to the gold and blue of the larger build. A few more wings or even some stickers could have brightened up the smaller vehicle and done it a favour.

The other smaller brick-built element is a delight, however. Every tentacle is posable, meaning you can arrange it in some fun poses when it’s held aloft by the grabber. The brain and the pink wings catch the light well, standing out from the otherwise muted colours of the set and the eye element is the perfect balance of nightmarish and cute that we know and love from LEGO DREAMZzz villains.

Speaking of characters we know and love, the return of Mr. Oz in 71475 Mr. Oz’s Space Car is a pleasure to see, complete with his gold and blue spacesuit that matches his car. He’s also paired with a tiny gun accessory, ready to battle with the Grimspawn, while Albert has a space helmet and a spanner tucked under his arm, so he can assist wherever necessary.

By comparison, Jayden comes with no accessories and in a fairly plain outfit that wouldn’t be out of place in any other theme. The jumper is a fun element, but the lack of leg and arm printing, as well as no notable objects at hand, leaves him looking rather plain not just in this set but across the entire LEGO DREAMZzz theme.

At £24.99 / $29.99 / €29.99, 71475 Mr. Oz’s Space Car packs quite a lot into its 350 pieces. We might comment on how plain one of the builds is, but the other two sections of the set are well detailed and cleverly designed, making it well worth its modest price tag.

LEGO DREAMZzz 71475 Mr. Oz’s Space Car features some vibrant characters in Albert, the Grimspawn, and Mr. Oz himself and there are enough play features with the grabber and different flight modes to work well for both play and display. While some of the smaller elements are slightly dull, for the price, it’s a fun set for fans of the animated show.
