LEGO DREAMZzz summer 2024 sets prove the theme is evolving

Two of LEGO DREAMZzz’s summer sets reveal that the theme and its characters are evolving later this year, both sticking to their roots and not.

Three of the rumoured LEGO DREAMZzz summer 2024 sets have been officially revealed, showcasing just how much the theme is changing compared to its first sets, both across its models and through its characters.

The LEGO Group’s latest original theme launched last year and saw a team of characters introduced to a world of dreams where they were encouraged to craft creations based on their hobbies and personalities. For Mateo and Cooper specifically, this includes their liking for Z-Blob – a character designed by Mateo – and cars.

While the minifigures for both of these characters are confirmed to be getting a redesign this summer, both 71484 Cooper’s Robot Dinosaur C-Rex and 71485 Mateo and Z-Blob the Knight Battle Mech are better examples of how the theme is evolving.

71458 Crocodile Car mixed a red car with a blue crocodile thanks to Logan and combining their interests into one creation. Cooper is embracing the animalistic side of this mixed creation for the summer, switching the car completely for robotic dinosaurs. This may reflect a change in the character’s hobbies in the second season, though this has yet to be confirmed. It might explain why Cooper has undergone such a major minifigure redesign too.

The evolution of 71454 Mateo and Z-Blob the Robot to 71485 Mateo and Z-Blob the Knight Battle Mech is a lot more noticeable as the transparent limb elements used in the smaller 2023 model have been upscaled for the 2024 build. 71485 Mateo and Z-Blob the Knight Battle Mech appears to be a direct upgrade from Mateo’s first creation.

As well as showcasing how LEGO DREAMZzz and its cast have evolved since last year’s start to the theme, the three summer 2024 sets feature a selection of elements that are sure to be useful in a variety of LEGO themes. LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
