LEGO Education confirms FIRST partnership is ending
LEGO Education’s partnership with FIRST will not be renewed beyond the current 2026-2027 season, bringing an end to decades of collaboration.
LEGO Education has today issued a statement regarding its ongoing partnership with FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), an organisation founded in 1989 to inspire young minds that have an interest in science and technology. That collaboration led to the creation of the FIRST LEGO League, a global STEM program aimed at building coding, engineering, and research skills through hands-on LEGO robotics that will now draw to a close at the end of the 2026-2027 season.
“Since 1998 we have partnered with FIRST to inspire kids through STEM learning,” confirmed LEGO Education. “As we look to the future, we’ve decided not to renew our partnership with FIRST. The 2026-2027 FIRST LEGO League season will be our last together.

“LEGO Education will launch a 2027-2028 season, and we look forward to bringing fun, inspiring and creative STEM learning and the important skills it develops to even more children in the future.”
The LEGO Education announcement goes on to briefly mention what might be on the horizon for the program and how its mission statement will be fulfilled going forward now that the partnership with FIRST is concluding.
“We can’t share more details yet, only that we will continue to work with our incredibly dedicated partners, volunteers and community around the world. Thank you for all you do to inspire the next generation of problem-solvers and visionaries.

“For now, let’s finish the 2025-2026 season strongly and make the 2026-2027 FIRST LEGO League season one of the best! Thank you FIRST for your shared vision and collaboration.”
The 2025-2026 season will therefore proceed as planned, with this year’s theme due to be announced during World Festival on May 2. LEGO Education states that the decision to part ways with FIRST is “part of our ambition to make STEM learning as accessible, engaging, and fun as possible to all students” and that “we will keep the elements that help our community develop important skills such as creativity, problem solving and collaboration and look for opportunities to do even more.”
